8.1 Vortec Engine Swap Questions

Wow I know for a fact my motor doesn't have those mounts.... This doesn't surpize me as my motor was out of a 03 van!

It's odd your engine doesn't have the dual mounts I have two 8.1l's in te garage that I'm pretty sure ones out of an 02 and the other is out of an 04... Alot of people consider this expensive but compared to building any other high HP engine it's reasonably cheap. Most expensive part is the wiring harness. The installation I've heard is no issue if you go with ORD's bigblock high clearence crossmember. I found a 4l80e cheap but if I had not the 700r4 will work.... Someone on here mentioned his blew up within a week... This was likely because the TV cable was mis adjusted... I blew mine up in 3 weeks when I was young and foolish with a tired 350 cause of the TV cable being calibrated wrong.

I'm quite happy with the setup I have planned 8.1/4l80e/drilled203/205doubler and good ol one tons.. Yeah it's a heavy setup but it's bomb proof... And the reason we drive fullsize is beause they are big... You want something like build a Sammy with a vw diesel.

As long as you do your research you'll find a 4 core radiator out of a old bigblock truck will cool it fine, you need accessory drive backets off a kodiak, and A manual 80mm throttlebody for any LS series engine and so and and then it's practically bolt in. I'm weeks away from having it all together and can't wait for my 90 k5 to be the sickest truck I've ever seen.

And as far as trans issues the 8.1l was offered with a 6-speed manual trans that isn't computer controlled so idk why they'd hassle you for putting an automatic in... Makes no sense to me but niether do half the lift laws in this country. Good
luck!

I was concerned with weight till I talked to Steve at ORD and he said "you gotta think, you're building a fullsize it's gonna be heavy no matter what you do to it, might as well build it so it won't break." and I'm not racing. So as long as the truck can handle the weight it's worth the power.

For what it's worth, I am getting ready to test fit a 8.1/allison combo into my 75 Blazer this weekend. I got the combo out of a wrecked 2003 GMC 2500HD.
I got all of the wiring and I will be retrofitting the steering column and the pedal assemblies into the Blazer.
I was torn between building a 383 and a 454. Long story short, I found a deal on craigslist I couldn't pass up. $2400 for the whole thing including the brake setup and a 14bolt with disc brakes.
I will be taking pictures and will post as this task progresses.

Good to see another guy from Fresno. Be sure to post up those pics when you get started. :waytogo:

Got the test fit done. Starting a build thread, but, needed 5 posts.
Will be up soon.
