i just bought a 8 inch lift for my 81 gmc k2500. what will i have to do to make the driveshaft angles work? will i have to drop the tranfer case to make clearence? whats the best way to do that? o BTW it has a T400 with a NP208 case.
any suggestions would help
thanks,
matt

I have an 8 in. on my 81 burb and just put an 8 in. on my 91 burb. I didn't drop or shim the transfer case. You will have to grind the ears on the double cardan joint on the front shaft for clearance, and you will have to lenghten the rear shaft. The front I bought a 1 in. spacer that went inbetween the transfer case and the flange on the shaft.

well actually now change in plans. the 8 inch fell through and now i think im going to go big and go 12 inch instead. LOL what will i have to modify with the 12 inch?
thanks,
matt

simply put alot not a bolt on and go lift. why so high is it a street queen or what? What size tire do you plan to run

well now the 12 inch fell through and i just got back from picking up my 8 inch all spring lift from my buddy. so ill be running the 8 inch plus the 3 inch body plus 1" zero rate blocks.
im goin to put 39.5 x18x16.5 boggers on it!! how do you think that will look?

I was running 4 inch 3 body and 39 trimed in the front a little in the back 8 and 3 is all you should need i would not use the block.
also never answered a street queen or are you going to use this truck

no its a wheelin truck. always covered in mud. the floors are ryno lined and shes all scratched up. i mostly in the mud but go in the trails alot also. but no i dont do crazy rock flexin and stuff.

Make sure you get a triple hoop chromed roll bar, 2 dozen KC lights, and quad shocks at all four corners with hot pink shock boots to complete the over lifted 80's look!

Just picking on you dude! I am sure that you will have a fine mud truck.

yeah lets see some pics when your done.
i was going to do a 8" lift but i dont want to get a new driveshaft. not to thread jack but how big can you go without lengthening the drive shaft?

6" i believe but its close and you have to clerance the cv usually. if you keep it 4 or under the mods to make it all work are less. steering shaft brakelines so forth.
And if you are building a mud truck well then by all means raise it up alot of mud trucks aroud here are running 44 boggers and just a 4" suspension and 3" body with triming. There is not alot of water just deep sandy mud if water is envolved in you're mud hole the higher the better. It seems it all about tire size than lift height. .o2

If it's not too late...forget the 3" body lift. Just go w/ the 8" springs. You need to trim the fenders for flex room the the meats, but that applies to trail riding. I lengthened both drivelines. Then when the doubler went in that changed again.
