Just to be sure I understand and don't waste money:

If I want 8 inches of lift I would do a 4" shackle swap plus 4" springs in the back, then get 8" springs up front?

Also, then I would probably need to get zero-rates to move the axles rearward/foreward to move the axles to center? This would raise it another inch but no biggie there.

Sound reasonable?

yes, that will get you 8" of lift. for the rear the shackle flip will move the axle forward, so the shackle flip will fix that.

what are you going to be doing with the truck? 8" lift front springs are going to ride terrible.

Mostly I want a Mudder. However, I want to drive it to where ever I may want to go without problems. I will have to make trade offs but I don't want to hate driving it either.

Is there a better idea for the front than 8" springs?

im running 4" lifted Tuff Country 52's (rear springs) up front and the ride is pretty smooth, much softer than the 8" BDS springs i use to have

Is there something I can add to say a 4" spring lift to reach the 8" lift I want?

I was thinking blocks but so far I have not heard anything good about using blocks. Maybe up front the blocks wouldn't be a big deal?

with 4 inch springs up front and a shackle flip out back with stock springs, put zero rates front and rear, then a 3 inch body lift. in theory that will net 8 inches.

Blocks up front is the big deal, if you have to run blocks it'll be in the rear. Blocks on front = potential death trap.

That might just work for me. I will put that in the "potential use" file. Thanks.

The longer lifted springs like muddybuddy is running work very well to get good height but a good ride too. Search for 52" swap, there is alot of other stuff involved in it but its usually stuff you end up doing anyway.

Thats my vote I would put lifted 52s up front and do the rear exactly like you were thinking.

Also the 52s will move the axle forward which will help with tire clearance

I talked with Alcan today. They said a set of 52" springs with 8" lift up front (made for my additional bumper, winch, etc weight) would ride and steer just fine. Now if I don't put that weight on them it will be stiff as all get out but if they are planned for a built correctly, the 8" spring lift would be fine.

Any comments or personal experience with Alcan or anything close to what I am trying to do?

Sound reasonable?

Edit: I am going to put a 4" shackle swap and 4" spring lift in the rear...along with zero rates.

Yes Alcan springs are pretty dang good, the cats meow as far as springs go.

Make sure you get your weights right though, if you guess and its too light its going to have a ton of body roll and if you guess too heavy its not going to ride very nice.

So do it Alcans are awesome

BUT some 4" lift 52s (rear blazer and pickup springs) will net you the same lift plus there are so many different spring rates out there you could probably pick a pretty good compromise.

Alcan didn't break it down but I assume that is what they meant. Not sure. I did specify I wanted 52s up front ending up with a total of 8" lift.

I will make sure before I submit my final order. Thanks for pointing that out.

just to clarify... that will net you 12" of lift.. you want 4" lift 52's to get 8"

With my luck....even with a 50/50 chance, I would get it wrong. :haha:

An old Yee-Haw tune comes to mind. "If it weren't for Bad Luck, I/d have no luck at all". :D Oh, doom, dispare and agony on me. :doah::haha:

I would imagine the custom built Alcans would not give you the typical additional 4" of lift like using off the shelf rear springs on the front.

be very careful when custom ordering springs, if you mess up with the wording they will make the wrong thing and you wont be able to return them.

also its also advised you upgrade your steering as well, the stock style wont work very well with 8" lift (i know from experience from back when i had 8" BDS springs up front). look to go with some kind of cross-over setup, which can get pricey fast.

I will make sure there is no misunderstanding before I order. Thanks.

Yeah, as I go along there seems to be more and more things to do. One upgrade leads to another. The good thing is, the blazer isn't a DD or even a weekend driver right now. I mean, it runs great but I don't want to put a part on and then worry about the strain it causes on another part while I drive it. It will take me some time to get it driveable to the point where I won't worry about breaking a weak link. I don't have the money to rush right now anyway.

I figureded it would take me about 6 to 10 months to get it where I would have the minimum needed to have fun and not worry. Now, I think it is going to take much longer. :eek1: I am not getting a raise and the lottery isn't my friend. ;)
