I have a 8 lug 9.5 sf axle from a 86 suburban. I want to replace it's broken GovLoc with an open carrier. My question is, will a carrier off of a 2001 6 lug 9.5 sf axle work in my axle? Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.

It should. I have found on the 10 bolts, the carrie used a different carrier bearings.

I would look up carrier bearings for the 86 and the 01 and see of they are differnt? I happen to have one out i can double check what numbers my carrier bearings have on them

Thanks for the response 63chevyll.I have not had any luck comparing the years mainly because I don't know the type of vehicle the 2001 axle was from. The only reason I know it's 2001 is because it's marked on the axle. I will go back to the junkyard tomorrow and try to see if the part numbers on the bearings match.
The 86 carrier bearing # is timkeno - JLM506811

I have seen them in 2500 express vans. Idk if the carrier is the same, but it was a 14sf axle the work vans at my last job. Disk brakes too
