Ok so I plan to finally take the 8lug plunge. Full floater rear in exchange for my frankenstein one and 8 lug outers on the d44.

I know the break backing plate and wheel hub are different but I have a few questions

Will my half ton calipers work with the new backing plates and rotors? If no is there anyway to make them work?

Do the 3/4 ton brakes clear 15in wheels?

your calipers will work, as for the 15in wheels fitting, some grinding to alot may have to be done to clear them depending on the backspacing of the wheels, i recommend bending the brackets down then grinding the ends to make the caliper fit in between them, over grinding them down to nothing, but then again it all depends on the backspacing, u might not have to grind at all

Wait you need to grind the bracket to make the 1/2 ton calipers work?

I dont think I need to worry about the wheel size anymore I might be getting 16.5's

1/2 ton and 3/4 ton calipers are the same physical size; the difference is piston diameter, but they're identical on the outside. (Note that different years have the different banjo bolt sizes, 3/8" vs 10mm, so there's a potential wrinkle there as well.)

Swing your calipers out of the way, swap to the 3/4 ton caliper bracket, swap hub/rotor assembly and then reinstall your calipers. There is no grinding when using 1/2 or 3/4 ton stuff. It's when you start running 15" wheels with a D60 that there are potential problems.

exactly what he said, , unless your 1/2 ton came with hd brakes, then they are already the 3/4 calipers, heard that somewhere dont know if it holds true, there is definitly grinding involved with the 3/4 swap for 15in wheels just did it and i had to grind a decent amount to get the 15in wheels to clear, so dont say its only a problem for the 60, sure its a bigger problem but a problem all the same

hmm I wish I had some dough. Theres a set of 37 hummer tires and beadlocks for cheap around here but I need to do the 8 lug first...

I know someone sent me a PM about my 8 lug conversion for sale but I'm not sure I replied correctly. Let me know.

Phil

I have the hubs and backing plates if you want 'em. I'm using the rotors and calipers on my rear disc conversion (cheaper to ship without them anyway).

I might have a local guy but what are you guys looking for shipped to 08742?

Yeah I got the hubs. Do you NEED the 3/4ton backing plates?

It's a pretty easy swap. You're going the exact direction I did when I sold off my Frankenstein. You should be able to do the front end in an afternoon or less.

I have all the 8 lug conversion stuff available for sale too if interested. All parts are about a year old.

I PM'ed / emailed you with interest. BTW, Be careful not to post anything regarding selling anything unless it is in the classifieds, which you can not do because you are not a member, yet. People have been known to take 3-day vacations from this site because they did this. Just the rules. I'm sure you understand.
Check your messages, I'm interested.

Give me a price for the backing plates shipped to 08742.

Btw guys is it cool to cut the dust shields off those plates to stop mud from getting wedged in? I know the toyota guys do it all the time with eliminator kits.

Wow I didn't know that about the for sale stuff. Thanks for the info, looks like I need to anty up for the membership soon! I don't have any PM's so I'll check my e-mail.

Thanks,
Phil
