I've been surfing the net, and saw 8 lug to 10 lug conversion. that you can fit. tractor tires on your ride.

this would be for some future, plan to play with.
I have a 1985 GMC Suburban 4x4 3/4 ton.

My question is. how many miles do you get out of a Tractor trailer tire?

is it like a 50,000 mile ware rating?

Seeing its a super heavy duty tire. would you get more ware out of them in a light truck?

Getting more ware miles from the TT tires would be the real reason, I would go to those tires.

The other reason would be getting some overdrive out of bigger tires. but I will have to see what my RPM's are to see if going to a bigger time would help, of just bog me down on the highway.

I would think you would get great wear/mileage out of those tires but at the same time your ride quality is going to suffer greatly. Those tires usually have a very stiff compound designed to handle the weight of the TT which makes for a very rough ride in a light weight truck. Even today's 1 tons don't weight enough to make them squishy.

first your in parts for sale .

second rolling weight will be HUGE and kill bearings / brakes a whole lot faster and make your stopping dist a lot more.

try searching 19.5 p-series AKA bread / fedex truck rims from a gm version . there a big upgrade but not as bad as semi rims and no adaptors needed.

Thanks for the great, info.....

and helping me,,, just stay with what I have,, 285/75R16

with the bad ride and the possibility of wearing out bearings,
going to the bigger tires goes against what my overall goal is
of making this vehicle as dependable and long lasting as possible.

So that will have to go in the not a good idea for my build,,, file!!

Have you looked at cost on these setups? I often see the adapters alone going upwards of $1500-2500. Plus wheels/tires.

Not a cheap setup by far, but they are badass looking.

Its one of those things that IF,, at some point you never know what you might find on Cregs list,, Or E-bay,,

I have lots of things I need to spend $1500 on for fixing up the Ol,, Burb right now,, but I'm seeing what the deal is on possible projects for the future.

the ware on the tires, would be a big deal,, and I still have that un answered question,,, how many miles might I expect out of some semi, tires?

It would have to be a Silly High Millage number, to make it worth it $$$$ wise,,

On a new set of tires? I'd guess 200+, probably closer to the 500k mark. I doubt you could ever wear a set out...let alone show wear on them at all.

I'm on the fence and off the fence,,,,, HAHHAA

I once had a Dodge 2500 3/4 ton,,, great truck,, but it ate tires,, I just hope my Burb,,, will not eat tires the same way,,,

that is why I'm collecting info, ,, from folks like you,, that have done it,,

after I get my Ride all fixed, up,, I'll have to keep my eyes open,, just to see what the deal might be,,,,

If you want to do it to be cool, go for it. But really doubt it will ever pencil out.

What are you running for tires?

I expect the BFG AT's on my 2500 burb to last about 50k. Half way, and little noticeable wear.

I drive this thing hard. Corner hard, WOT out of corners, etc. Its always got 500+ lbs of gear in it, and waaaay more when traveling/towing. I'd say thats pretty good for a set of tires!

The 19.5 wheels/tires are also a direct bolt on with no mods needed (for a dually).
