I have a chance to trade for a set of 80s (not sure exaclty)Dodge Dana 60 and 70 rear with 4.88 gears. This one is supposed to be the open knuckle kingpin style, just wondering what it would take to swap that under my79 k5? I've got an 8 lug 10bolt now thats set up for crossover, so I was workign on that, am in the process of 52"spring swap I'n not too concerned about the rear 70, I have a 4.10 14b that I can swap gears in, or swap the gears in the 60. I would be getting a VERY good price on this, but is it worth the effort?

If you NEED a 60front, then its worth the effort. The spring spacing will give you the most fuss. Its off by 1.25 inches or so. You will either need to relocate the front spring-eye mounts to make it line up straight. On my buddies dodge, we used a cumalong to install a chevy 60 up front because of the spring width, it just ate away the bushings and handled like crap so id reweld the front spring eye closer together with the 52's and use some offset shackles so everything lines up straight. As far as steering goes, get chevy crossover steering parts as your already have the draglink and you will need the dodge tierod. As far as the shock mounts go, there different as well and its easiest just to bend them or weld on some different mounts that work. hth

There are TONS of threads on here discussing Dodge D60's in a Chevy, try a search. Basically, the only real issue is the spring perches which are only off by a little (.5" IIRC).

You would need to move the perches in the rear to match the Chevy spring spacing IIRC.

And you can run the drive flanges with a 205, you won't break the drive flanges (unlike lockouts).

Yeah, I've been searching trying to read as much as I can, it's just that I need to give the guy an answer asap if I'm going to do it so someone else doesn't claim them first!
With the flanges on it won't it drive like its full time, even with the 205 is in 2wd?

The components in the front end will spin, but they won't receive any power until you shift into 4WD.

There are tons of stock Dodges and Jeeps out there with drive flange type stuff, even though the t-cases are part time.

Unless you're running a spool up front, you'll never notice the drive flanges.
