My truck is technically a '86 but being a CUCV it has a 83-84 grille on it. Mine's pretty cracked up on the d-side thanks to some ham fisted soldier or something and I'm looking to replace it.
The problem is I can buy a new 85-87 grille on ebay for about $45 delivered while the good shape 83-84 grilles are going for double that. However I get spotty reviews on whether or not the 84-87 will fit my truck. Anyone know?

Seems to me like they would interchange...would they?

As I said in the other thread, mine's an '86 and I put the '83-'84 grill on. No mods, no nothing. I put in new headlight trim just because, but it all bolted in with zero issues.

You just need to make sure you're getting the grill meant for a two headlight front end. Other than that, those years interchange easily.

How about a tube grille? Those fit all years from 81-91, and can still be scuffed and painted.

Ugh... I've always thought those things were tacky as Hell... They scream, "I was bought for $59.95 from a JC Whitney catalog". They're right up there with the plastic, faux-chrome spinner hubcaps that Pep Boys sells.

Not a fan of those either. Nice looking truck though noJeeps.

I figure I can cut up the '85-87 grille similar to how the CUCV's '83-87 grilles were cut since it appears they have the same spacing on the vertical bars left to right just more rows up and down.

So two headlights eh?

Not sure about the interchangeable, but I put an 84 Dual headlight GMC grill in my Chevy. I like the GMC ones better. no emblems and noone has been the wiser.

CHeck LMC for the diff. types. unless you have your heart set on the one you found on egay.

how about certafit?
http://certifit.com/

I bought my grill from them new for $10
and I think the sides which I didnt buy were $5 or $10 each too..

their doors, hoods, tailgates and body parts are a cheaper metal.... than oem... but I used their doors... a nice hip check to close the door dented it... :doah:

bad, LMC wants $58 or so before shipping for the grille only. I'm not set on have genuine GM or even an accurate grille on it...just a grille that isn't falling apart and looks correct(ish).

Rootbreaker, how did you get in touch with them? Their website sorta sucks.

So just to clarify this, I need the single headlights setup, not the dual headlights setup. I see folks saying two headlights and think they mean a single headlight on each side like mine and not the two headlights on each side...correct?

Two headlights= one on each side
Four headlights= two on each side

The reason for looking for two headlight specific grilles is because they are a little narrower then the four headlight grilles, because the single light is wider.

The ebay grilles are aftermarket and don't have the same detail as the OEM ones.

I brought my '02 F-350 to the dealer for warranty work. When I got it back the grille was cracked. I hadn't looked at it closely for a while so I couldn't be sure they did it.

So, I bought an aftermarket grille to save money. It was a total piece of *hit. It looked great when I bought it, but the chrome on the plastic was not done well and after a year it looked like total *rap.

I told the truth about it and sold it on ebay for $.99 (which is what it was worth). I bought an OEM one. Much better quality.

Root, talked to them yet? (Yes I'm impatient.:wink1:)

Just a warning for you guys but these knuckleheads:

Don't have a friggin' clue about what they are selling. I emailed and got no response and then called and asked about the headlight setup and they really had no clue. I doubt the Indian or Bangladeshi women I talked to have ever even seen one of our trucks but if you ask them if the grille in that ad fits single or double headlight trucks they really have no answer for you. At all. I finally told them I'd just look elsewhere.

no i havent.. been real busy...

I will call today...

just did....

for a single headlight grill for a 1983 chevy pickup:
$17.95 + NJ 7% tax + $10 shipping fed ex ground (roughly to a residence.. business is cheaper) + paypal fees (unless ya send me a mo or check)

Damn man, that ain't bad at all. I'll be home in a few hours and will contact you then. Thanks!
