So, I converted the Blazer to a 700r4/241 combo recently. Not knowing any better, I assumed the 241 used 80w90 like the 205 did. I've put a couple hundred miles at most on the new drivetrain (it's just a weekend toy). Question is, have I caused any damage to the 241 with the gear oil in it?? :doah:

Thanks!

ps - I'll be draining it and filling it with ATF this weekend.

Probably not in Texas weather, but if you were in some cold ass place like Mich you would have.Drain the grease and see it has any chunks in it.

I wouldn't think you hurt anything, driving it that little bit...

I'd drain the gear oil, then get some cheap ATF, run it for a little bit through all of the ranges, drain it, and then refill..that should get the 90 weight out of there.

It might not have did any damage but you will need to flush it out. I would drain and fill with trans fluid, run it for a few miles and drain again and refill. I think you will be fine.

After reading this should I do the same with my 205 since it has some sorta of gear oil in it too? I'm is usually sunny SoCal. Or am I not to worry?

Dont know if this is any help but i have had gear oil in my 208 for about 6 years....it leaked bad and i drained the atf and put valvoline gear oil in it and so far so good....many wheeling trips and winters...

What would be the worry of a 241 having gear oil and now worries with a 205?

Because a 205 is supposed to have gear oil normally. I have heard that later 205's had ATF but I have never seen one with ATF in them. As far as a 208 or 241 running gear lube, what would bother me is the oil pump set up.

I have heard the the syncro 205's had ATF. I have also heard that GM did it for the MPG numbers too. With as much as my 205 leaks, I don't think I could pour in ATF fast enough.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll drain it and flush it this weekend and will get back if I find anything.
