Got word on an '87 Blazer body w/running gear from '81 burb. Owner said 8 lug gear. What will I find-ff,sf, d60 front?

Stock, 3.73's or 4.10's. But after a swap, you have no idea.

Since there never was a production 1ton Burb, I'd suspect the rear is a 14sf. The front is either a D44 or 10b, IIRC there wasnt much difference and I dont know what year they changed over.

Knowing that the majority on here are haters of the 10b, I'm hesitant to ask-but is the 14s/f that much stronger than my current 10 with cmollys? This is my bogging only k5 w/bbc and 44s. I don't want to give up the clearance or added weight just yet and have had no problems in 4 yrs. of hard running.

Not sure how much difference there would be between axleshafts, since you have alloys, but the carrier is much stronger. It's also a 9.5" ring on the 14sf. I've known so many guys that blew up 10b's on 35s and 37s with a lot less HP (admittedly stock shafts), but you're playing in the mud, it's a different game. There's always the option of a 14sf with alloys, but if the 10b hasn't broke, maybe just wait til it does.:dunno:

That's kinda what I was thinking. I may get the truck( complete K5 w/burb axles) for 4--500$. He says motor is shot but I don't need it as my was not hurt in the fire.

Well got a look yesterday and found 14sf and d44 up front.:( Not what I was hoping for. But may pick it up for parts anyway. Camo body in good shape w/burg int. 208/400/350.

Are you sure they are out of a 1981? I don't think Suburbans were using semi floaters yet. Also, '81 is late for a Dana 44.

You can get a 10b with 8 lug outers, so it could be a 10b. I dont recall what year they went to 10b from the D44 and I'd have to look around to find my ID chart for axles. I'm sure someone on here will beat me to it.

Well, if I remember correctly, they started using front 10 bolts in '77, but there is no solid split. I just parted out a '79 K20 the other day with a Dana 44. The latest I have heard of GM using Dana 44's yet was '80, but that isn't a solid number, just what I have seen.

D44 with have that cast into the web just to the right of the diff cover. The 10 bolt corporate did not have anything and they had a more round cover.
