I busted my automatic hub cover on my driver side front axle not too long ago. I cannot find a new one anywhere. I have looked in autopart stores, junk yards and even off-roading shops. No one can find them and when I look online, even lmctruck.com, all I get are locking hubs and conversion kits from automatic to locking hubs. I have read that they are better and more reliable, but I would like to stick to automatic for now until I finish college and can really do some serious work on my rig. I have two questions, where can I find an automatic hub cap for my front axle and if I can't find one what is involved in converting to lock-out hubs? Would I be able to do it on my own or would I have to go through someone to get it done. Appreciate the help in advance guys!

Check the auto yards for them hell you might get them for free if you take off. That is one of the first things people change out. When we bought our 1979 trucks (Brand New) we changed them before the first month was out.

Saw a pair a few weeks ago on evilBay. Will keep my eys out for you.

Swapping on a set of lock out hubs is almost as simple as changing oil. I would highly recommend it.

What he said. When I get my '89 manual hubs are one of the first mods I plan.

I scored a set of Warn Standard's at the junk yard a couple of weeks ago for $10. I was scavenging axles out of an '89 and it crossed my mind that I have a project truck in the garage that has a set. Thought I might want some spares, since I had stumbled on them.....

IMHO just pay him for the shipping and some gas that seems fair. Heck most just toss them.

I will eventually get lock outs once I finish school and can seriously start working on my truck. I put her in 4 wheel drive atleast once a month, but can't right now cause I cracked the seal on the driver side. Also, I can't really go too extreme since she is my means of transportation up at college. Jimbob are you looking to sell them?

I don't think you realize how simple installing lockouts is. It is no different than installing a new automatic lockout. The only difference is that you would have to do both sides, instead of just one side. That is it. If you are going to install the new automatic hub, then you have the ability to install lockouts.

If he is he will have to email you since sales are frowned on very badly in the Garage. Not trying to be hard but for the time you will invest in doing the auto hubs. You will be ahead to grab some manual ones and Did I mention you will get a little better gas mileage.

Our 1979 trucks (BRAND NEW FROM GM) had autos and like I said we put Warn hubs on them. The problem that people have with Auto hubs is when they work they work great but when they frack up your FRACKED! :eek1:

It is like a fire extinguisher you hate to spend money for it but when you need it is sure is nice to know it works! :doah:

My cap is really bad, it is cracked all the way through and I can see the inside very easily. I gave in and ordered the Warn Premium Lock Outs and I get them in tomorrow around 8am. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it all!
