Photobucket is best, or YouTube. I missed something. Are they header or manifolds? Manifolds crack and heat shields can cause cracks.

first off, those are headers...not manifolds.

My plan of attack would be removing the bolts holding them on the engine, see what the gasket looks like and you should be able to see if its leaking there. If it is, buy a quality gasket and install that and make sure you tighten the bolts pretty good (if they are all rounded over or really cheap, i would get some new header bolts) and with headers, sometimes your need to periodically tighten them because they can work loose unless you getting locking bolts.

edited my post above, check it out, find something to stand on and get comfortable because sometimes the bolts can be a pain, from the looks of them they are 6 point, i would get a 6 point socket on them and a 3/8" ratchet and try to get them out, sometimes you cant always get a socket on them due to them being so close to the tubes so you will have to use a wrench, but just try not to round them over, they might come out easy though, only know if you try :waytogo:

Sit up on the fender under the hood with your feet on the frame. It may look goofy, but it will be easier. :thumb:

thanks guys

Thank you guys so much for all the info, i really do appreciate it. I will have to get under there one of these days soon when i have more time and I will let you know how it goes. :thumb:

it could potentially be pinholes in the welds, but by the sound of it, it sounds pretty substantial. So thats why i would start with the gaskets, you will see black on the gasket where it is leaking.

I NEVER use header gaskets. I use standard Fel-Pro manifold gaskets on headers. They are easy to install because they are notched, and can go on with the headers in place.

I'm so disappointed in you guys.....

... A recently single girl shows up on CK5 asking for some help with her truck and nobody has offered to drive over to help? :haha:

There was a time on this site when at least 4 guys would have been racing across town for a chance to be the "hero".

To the OP: no worries, you are in good hands here. Everyone will help get you sorted out... Pics and video help a lot when you are trying to diagnose a problem and you're not sure how to describe it. You'd be amazed at what some of these guys can tell you from a photo....

My guess is that a new set of exhaust gaskets will solve the issue. For a permanent fix, you can pick up a set of Stage-8 locking header bolts. They will never work loose like a normal bolt no matter how many heat cycles they go through. They are a bit spendy, but you'll never have to listen to that annoying exhaust whistle again.

I know. It doesn't seem like too many guys on here around my area

Thats my problem. I'm stuck down here in Fl. out of all the fun stuff. Never met a single person here.
Not only am I way out of the action, I don't even own a GM product. Not totally sure why they keep putting up with me, but they do.

Some poor fools have even expressed a desire to meet me in person, seemingly thinking it would be a treat. I keep telling them I am the most boring person they would ever meet.

One kind soul even said he hoped I lived long enough for us to meet.......I still think about that one from time to time........

But trust me, if you were close, I would have shown up by now. Around here, there are days I spend more time at friend's houses fixing stuff than my house.

So far this week, I have to fix a friend's central air unit that he managed to burn the control transformer up in, put a new GPS nav unit in another friend's offshore boat, repair another friend's ice machine, instruct a couple of guys on how to program and run a new CNC milling machine they just bought, sight in a guy's rifle he decided to put a new scope on a week before the end of hunting season, and shock a possum.

But, even so, if you were closer, I could work you in......

I think Skye would be mad :dunno:

I remember these days well, when I first got my truck and all that. Now it is a semi permanent garage slab mounting anchor. Just take it slow and easy at first, this would be a good start. This site has sooooooo many pics, helpful people, nifty builds, completely incoherent drunk talk and so on so forth. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Just be careful as you start getting deeper into it, the larger the project, the more chance of you losing interest and selling it. Seen that way to many times. If it wasnt for my children, there has been many times I would have sold mine getting in over my head with things in the early days. Now, its normal for it to be in 20 pieces scattered in the yard, house, dishwasher, and the oven. So I have no fear of large by huge projects. Good luck, you could try checking "The Driveway" forum area thing for pics of headers to help you along, and probably find a similar build to what you want, and can get helpful pics, ideas and interweb wisdom from the build.
