what is so good about this block? i thought i heard it was a good one to build up or something like that. thanks

OK not sure what that means. could you go into it a bit? i thought all cucvs blocks where like that?

the high nickel blocks do not wear as fast as the other ones and are a bit stronger.

IIRC the higher nickel content made for a stronger block.

However later blocks had other improvements all the way beyond GM's manufacture:doah:when GM went to the Duramax. The final, and best, blocks were put in the HMMWVs. Of course after '93 the engines became the 6.5 but you can have a 6.2 with a 6.5 block:crazy:

Sorry, I don't know exactly what blocks had what improvements or the final official block manufacturer. If you know the first 3 numbers of your blocks serial number you can find out it's pros & cons. Mine is a 499 from '95 and had those numbers cast in the left side of the valley but not all engines have them there. I saw them when the intake manifold was off as well:rolleyes:

Yes, the early blocks were high nickle content but were dropped to lower cost. I don't know when design improvements overcame the loss of high nickle.

Go to www.dieselplace.com and look in the forums there. They have a forum for the 6.2 and one for the 6.5. Look through the FAQ and sticky posts to find more info than you can remember:wink1:
