Well after years of abuse and dd'ing on my 1982 chevy K10 scottsdale iv had to replace a lot of broken parts and fix a lot of things so i decided i might as well do a build thread about my big blue. Sorry for any mistakes this is my first build and posting any work iv did on the truck.

I bought it in 2006 with 32K miles and how it is in this pic for 900 bucks from a cop in my town! Iv kept my eye on this truck for about two years, i guess he didnt want to sell it to anyone but i was a good kid and his wife wanted it gone he let it go for me right before i turned 16, Its a 82 on a 76 chassis, it Came with a 6 inch superlift kit with blocks in the rear, 3 inch body lift, crate 350 motor and a semi built th350, dana 44 front, 12 bolt rear, both stuffed with 4.56 gears, and some 39 worn out/dryrotted mickey thompsons baja belted

After some hours wet sanding and buffing it, the paint turned out pretty good for its original paint

That summer i mudded the crap out of it and drove it as my daily driver and ended up with a blown trans, i thought it was the pump seal because it was pissing fluid out the front seal, so i dropped the heavy ass 205, and the 350 myself at the age of 16 and replaced the seal and put it back together, but after running it for a few min it started pissing out the seal again...

Time to pull her out again.

sitting with a blown trans...

I ended up getting it rebuilt but some trans place and installed it back in with a shiftkit and drove it everywhere after that.

I was in the need for more power so I installed some vortec heads and a edelbrock intake and i also threw in a pete jackson gear drive for the lovely supercharger sound and cleaned my motor up.

While i had the motor pulled i painted my enginebay gloss black and cleaned the wires up.

I drove it around like that for about a year till the trans went out again on my way to school, it started slipping in reverse and on my way home from school it just about went out. That was around winter time and being a broke kid i didnt have money to rebuild it or a warm place to do it because IL winters sucks...Well my dad decided to get married and wanted to move around spring time and had some money saved up from my moms child support to get my truck moving and got my trans rebuilt for me by a great trans builder in our town (Sam at The Tranz Shop) This guy knows his **** and move so the th350 got all the bell and whissles..

So i installed that in spring 2008, I was pumped to have my truck to drive again.

About 2008 fall we got a big ass flood here and i decided to drive though some flooded roads and did about 35 mph a few times into it for fun and about the 5th time i hydrolocked my motor and knew it was gonna sit for awhile to gather money to build another motor cause i was a broke ass hs kid.

Well my buddy lended me some cash and i had some saved up from selling my hydrolocked shortblock with a bent rod and some heads and intake i got for free for 200 bucks. I started building another 350 and has more plans for power in this one.

I installed a comp cam extreme 4x4 cam in there, slapped my vortec heads on and ported and polished them and gasketmatched the ports, installed my old intake and holly truck advenger.

I installed that motor and got it running a week before our tripp to badlands to offroad.

Heres the motor installed

replacing a motor in a lifted truck is a pain in the ass btw haha

well i had a blast memorial weekend at badlands, my truck did amazing and i was surprized on how well it did in everything, mudd boggs, rock climbing, trails and how it made it there and back on the ****ty tires.

My buddy and i built the front bumper on his WJ before badlands also.

It got some trail damage but about ten miles leaving out campsite on the freeway my rpm's just shot out the roof. I thought i blew my trans or something so i check my gear and its in gear, i knew once we stoped and i tried to put it in park and heard the grinding and the truck still rolled, i got out and what do you know some holes in my diff cover, i pulled the rear driveshaft and drove home i front wheel drive, it got my home but i hated doing it. It made a two hour tripp last 6 hours.

pulled the cover and i had a stripped pinion gear and it was low on fluid so i guess i ran it low on fluid and overheated it.

The truck sat all of 09 summer and i finally got a job and saved my money and found a set of axles with 4.56 gears and detroit truetracs front and rear, dana 44 and 12 bolt, so i bought those for 675 bucks for both and got to work cleaning and painting them and installed them fall of 09.

installed pics are soon to come...

I installed the front dana 44 and the rear 12 bolt with new U bolts and nuts and redid my exhaust and installed two cherry bomb extreme single chamber mufflers and i gotta say they sound pretty nice.

I got that installed and finally was able to drive it again and had some fun on some snow banks

Well about two months on that 12 bolt i hit my shifter into reverse on accident and bye bye 12 bolt #2. This time i stripped my ring gear...time for a 14 bolt, had to source down some tires and rims and front end parts

Ring gear

truck sat for about a month then i found a guy on craigslist that was looking for a dana 44 with 4.56 gears and i had my old one laying around so i traded him the axle and he gave me a 14 bolt ff he had laying around with some good rotors that needed to be turned and $100 bucks.

I got started on stripping the 14 bolt and prepping and cleaning it and painting it

and it painted

i installed some ruffstuff disk brake brackets and painted them metalic blue and pulled the old 3.73 gears. i was trying to find some 4.56 gears detroit all together with pinion support.

I happen to post a wanted ad on pirate4x4 and BIGGERK had some and i bought those and installed some timken bearings in the hubs and carrier.

The spindles had some rust and pitting where the seal rides so i sanded them as smooth as i could and run it and hope the timken seals dont leak.

This is my first gear install and the 14 bolt seems pretty easy to do so im gonna tackle it myself.

I found a guy on craigslist parting out a truck with a 8 lug 10 bolt so i pulled the 8 lug stuff off that and took the spare shafts cause im gonna be breaking some and i hope they are the same splines.

Im waiting on my parts place to get my parts in stock and gotta go get some new u bolts made and order some zero rates and spring plates from diy4x.

While im building the axle i found a good deal on some 39.5-18-16.5 boggers on 8 lug rims and decent tread for 400 bucks.

im gonna run those those till i can get some rims for the toyo's i also got a good deal on (225 for all 4), 4 toyo open country mud terrains 37-13.5-18. still deciding on what rims to get, possibly rockstars or the hoss's

My plans are a shackle flip, zero rates front and rear. possibly 52's up front. 14 bolt ff rear and the dana 44 8lug till i can afford a dana 60. Build a front bumper, install a winch my buddy gave me he had laying around, build a light bar, we have a tubing bender so some fun stuff with that. Iv been building this truck as cash allows and still be a dailydriver because my dad doesnt want me to have more then one car cause his wifes a bitch and she barly lets me work on it and enjoy my hobby.

Im 19 almost 20 and did most of the work myself, i have a nice alpine sound system in it and a bronco seat in the bed thats actually legal haha. i will update this with more pictures once i find them and when more parts come in.

My plans are to have it moving on its own power before my b-day march 31st :) and another trip to badlands this year on memorial weekend with a few buddies.

Give me ur opinions and thoughts about my big blue, i love the thing to death and would never be able to get rid of it.

I really like where you're going with this thing. I am currently rebuilding my 14bff and D60 for install in my Blazer, I feel your pain. Hopefully you don't have the rusty floor issues I have, though. Keep the work coming, and just keep saving your pennies for the parts you need.

Good looking truck. Keep up the good work man. You planning on getting rid of the body lift at all?

Scott

Thanks for the support guys!

I debated on removing the bodylift, the bed would be easy because i replaced all those bolts when i had the bed off to do the rubber undercoating...that stuff sucks...but the cab would be a pain, i love all the room under the hood because i can actually sit in the engine bay, and i dig all the room between the trans and back of the motor from the firewall being higher up, i debated on a 2in body lift and get some different flexier springs.

rear disk problem

Well heres a update.

Been gathering more parts, i gathered all the brake lines and bonjo bolts and all that.

I got my rear hubs on with the rotor and went to slide the caliper onto the disk bracket with the pads in it and the inner pad is a tad too thick, im not too sure if its the pad, the rotor, or the caliper, i used the bigger 3in piston in the caliper if thats gonna change it? anyone?

Im still waiting on my timken bearings for the carrier and my front timken seals for the front hubs and new wheel stud's, hopefully i can get this axle installed this week

Well heres some updates on what i have got done. I got the axle installed and the truck going in a few days i had to work on it in the daylight.

Heres the old 12 bolt getting ready to be removed

CIMG0096.jpg

CIMG0097.jpg

The 14 bolt ff ready to be installed and it being installed, The damn thing is heavy and a pain to hassle around. I got the brakes stuff all sorted out and going. Im using the stock proportioning valve and stock master cylinder and it seems to work pretty good, if i tap the brakes once before i stop and press them again they work like a charm, wayy better then drums.

I love the stance the boggers give it.

Still gotta finsh a few things and wrap it up, but im able to drive it :)

-Install front spring bushings
-Fab shackle flip for rear
-Find hitch and install it
-Get it tinted
-Weld most crossmembers to frame
-Weld around steering box again
-Replace leaky rear axle hub seal thats spilling diff fluid all over my tire and rotor as i drive.
-Fix my SECOND 10,000 vortex Ebay winch that they wont warranty after two pulls on each at badlands in a year. There POS and dont get them! iv talked to them and they just keep insisting the solinoids are bad when its the motor and solinoid and wont replace.
-Fix rust or replace cab
-Get windshild pee pee's to work.
-Build front bumper for winch
-Fab up a light bar, or find a roll bar
-Install cab clearance lights
-Install 4 Black offroad lights i have
-Get holly truck advenger tuned right.
-Replace fuel selector valve.

I replaced my cracked tranny cooler i had that was pissing fluid all over the bottom.

Leave me your input and any idea's you have for my rig, i Daily drive it and offroad it, i gotta get it ready for badlands memorial weekend.
