Guys running 8274s. I want to build a new bumper because mine is too heavy, sits too low, and sticks out too far. Right now my fairlead is between the frame rails. I'd like to get the winch above the frame and closer to, or even into, the grille. So, if you don't mind post some pics anr/drawings. TIA.

Here is what I have now, 4" lift & 35s:

Here are a couple of pics of the bumper DP_90K5 built for me. The winch is still positioned down between the rails and very close to but out in front of the grille. I haven't installed the bumper yet so I don't have any pics of it on my K5.

If it was tucked in far enough that that the bumper wasn't sticking out past the frame horns that might work. I still think it would be better on top.

I will have a bumper from Jesse at Blazenoffroad here monday. Give me a week or two to get it mounted and I will post up.

Here is my homemade job.

Heres my home made job. Never got around to finishing it, adding bracing on the sides into the frame. Now both sides are bent and kinked in.

Thanks guys!

So far jays' is most like what I'm looking for. Did you just weld the bar to the front? But I think I will tuck it in like poohbair's, maybe.

Poohbair, do you like the H1 rims? They look like 12B, which run flats are you using? What size tire? (that is my next mod)

Everyone, did you bend your mountplate or weld the 90*?

My front plate is welded, not bent. It is back to about 2" from the radiator which is all I felt comfortable with (didn't want body flex and stuff getting the radiator into the back of the winch...)
Yes, mine are 12B rims w/ the rubber runflats and the tires are 38x15.50R16.5 TSL Radials. Work great... I just sold those tires and wheels because I am going to sell my D60/D70 and don't need them anymore.

I ended up putting in another corssmember more towards the front and then capping the ends of the frame. Off the crossmember come two tubes up to the front bumper tube. Then you have the 1/4" plate on the bottom that is a skip plate but also adds a ton of strength to the bumper. Then you have the piece that the winch is mounted to, and its side braces. It does well for me. Has pulled me out a few times along with several other fullsizes. I love the speed of this winch. :D

jay, 1/4" plate attached directly to the bottom of the fram rail? Or am I missunderstanding you?

MTMike, did you build that? Do you have any close ups?

Once again, thank you for the input.

bottom of the crossmember I installed, and the 2 tubes going from it to the front tube. See if these pics help out some.

No. MNorby from on here did, and I bought them from him this summer. Then I had a buddy help me (read "do it for me") build the winch mount for it. I've got some closeups of it without the winch mount, but will have to take some for you of the winch mount later tonight.

I'm still trying to get you some closeups of my winch mount, but working 16 hour days for the last 3 days has taken it's toll on my free time.
