'84 6.2 Engine, Craigslist $350, Los Angeles

I've always heard they were designed and built by "Detroit Diesel" which was a division of GM at the time they were built.

6.2L and 6.5L were products of the Detroit Diesel division of GM. They split off sometime in the 90's but continued to do business with GM into the early '00's.

The 6.2 was designed by Detroit Diesel. However, it was manufactured at GM's Moraine engine plant in Moraine, Ohio. So, is it a Detroit Diesel, or a GM diesel? I call it a GM diesel, but I will point out to those who think it is an Olds diesel that it is not, and in fact was a clean-sheet design by the (then) Detroit Diesel Division.

Saw on craigslist. Not much info. Guy calls it a "Detroit Diesel" which is a common mistake. If it is an '84 should have a red block and high nickel content.

the red, high nickel content block was only for 82 the first year, and some early 83 trucks got that engine but mainly after 83 they changed the mix, so 84 would be a black engine low nickel content.:wink1:

For some reason I thought the '84 was the first year:o:o:o
