84 GMC Diesel Jimmy Build

How is this build only 7 pages??? This is one of the sickest trucks around.

Hope youre all healed up. Truck looks great man.

I have that light set up on my rig they work really well the only down fall is the wiring is pre made up and are a bit long. On the sub i got a foot maybe or so one half the lights cant even imagine how long they would be on a blazer. I'm going to open up the wiring on mine and shorten them up.

Any chance of a shot of your front bumper design? Awesome build bro, great design and fab! I am loving the fact that you have got diesel power in a go fast desert truck!!!:thumb:

just catching up with ya on this buildup. Really cool stuff going on here. Aren't the straight cut planetaries supposed to have more torque capacity than a T400?
Is the trans stock otherwise?

Talk about a dream truck! Have you driven it enough to figure out your mpg?

Unfornutely I have been busy with my son...he is two now and is all over the place. My odometer has not worked in three years. It definetly on the list. Have been destracted this last year with home projects, truck derby project, fixing up an old commercial building, and a new CC SB 3500 project I just bought. Looking to modify the rear brackets on the Jimmy to work on the 3500...For now I have cut the frame and trying to get it in running condition for a shop rig.

I know is sad compared to alot of other build thread...sorry. I have been really considering designing a rear triaglulated four link kit for the Jimmy here in the next year. It should be fairly easy since I have 16" FOA shocks in the rear. Just firguring out the suspension geometry will take a little time to make sure it works correctly.

The front bumper was based on a Smitty Built winch plate and I just built off that. I think they are only $120 or so from 4wp. I notched the frame back as far as I could so the bumper does not stick out too far. This will only work with a planetary winch because you would have to take out the center part of the grill and lower trim to use a 8274 and etc.

The motor in definely the speed limiter in my case but it keeps me out of trouble. Needs and overdrive for sure!

Correct. The trans is really called a TH475 and the straight cut planetaies are the biggest reason. The other is the intergrated aluminum pan and inspection cover (more rigidity). The only thing I changed was the rear output shaft and fictions. Been a great trans, but I wish GM made a 400 with an overdrive and no electronics. Don't want to shift a manual valve body 4l80. My whole build logic on the Jimmy was to have the minimal amout of electronics and keep everything simple. That my change if I use a 4l80E. I am leaning towards a built 700R4. My friend I went to school with is running a 4BT and a 700R4 in his Scout II and is happy with it once he figure out the weights for the govener.

finally! Ive been dying, waiting for you to get back on and update this thread. Sorry, I dont ever contribute crap. :doah: I just sponge info off the skilled guys. :dunno::haha:

SICK RIG!!!! That front end is GAGAGORGEOUS!!!:thumb:

You wouldnt happen to still have some of those CAD drawings would you? Or measurments and other info on your link setup?? Im in the CAD program at school, and I would like to mess around with this.

Ya how did I miss this build????? seriously one of the best built rigs on CK5:bow:

I didnt catch if you were still on leafs in the rear?

Thanks! Appreciate it. I grew up with these trucks and will never stop modifing them.
