Need some help thinking about putting a ford 400 in my 84. Just need some ideas of how much work needs to be done to fit the engine. also picking up a c6 transmission to go withe 400, do I need ford driveshafts or will the gmc ones work?

Why? Put a 400 sbc in. I like mine, that seems like too much work, and its a fuuuurd.....:dunno:

I'd forget that idea unless you buy a FORD to put that engine in...the 351M/400's were turds that often cracked the heads & block, after overheating...for all the work making that thing fit into a GM truck and work---I'd say its not worth doing it....can it be done??..sure..is it worth it??..doubtfull..............................................................................................................................................................................................I know a guy who transplanted a 1979 GMC C20 cab and bed onto a 70's Ford 4x4 truck frame & running gear--but he used a 460,a much better engine choice...still,he was booed and chastized at all the truck shows when the GM fans saw a FORD undecarriage & motor under it!....even though it turned out rather nice and drove fine..

Definitely would not use a 400 Ford motor as a swap into anything! They were crap! Use a 460 if you're set on a Ford.

Me-thinks this is a case of, "I have it just lying around so I'll use it". :doah:

Why not sell the Ford 400 and use the money to buy a good running used 350? You can find SBC's all day long for cheap.
