Finished removing the wire harness and all the hoses and power steering lines. Also removed the front accessory brackets. The fan clutch was a pain because stupid ChatGPT told me to turn it clockwise to remove. Wouldn’t budge so checked YouTube and can off quick and easy counter clockwise!!
Cleaning up around bell housing if transmission before I detach it from the block. Will also probably drain the trans fluid first.
I then decided to get that transmission removed and inspected. While doing that I discovered that the top bolt earpiece was broken. So that sucked! Unfortunately that’s the gamble of using old parts. The transmission appeared in good condition otherwise. And I’m sure it would work fine if I reused it. I just don’t want to rebuild it when the cost of a rebuilt one is close to the same.
With the transmission removed I then removed the exhaust manifold. The pipes were cut pretty long so they were in the way. That enabled me to get the engine attached to the mount. That will make tear down much easier.
Next I removed the intake manifold and the valley cover. That exposed the knock sensors. Those were pretty corroded. One came out easy but the other kinda broke off and the metal ring didn’t come off. That was a pain getting it removed.
