84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
So put the new starter on... still did not want to start.. messed around with that trying to get it to clear out for 15 mins.. nothing.. looked under the truck and saw gas on my freaking exhaust!!! Wtf!!!!!
Checked the oil and it was way beyond full..
drained 13 qts of gas/oil, let that air out for a few. Dumped in 6 qts of new oil and filter. Unplugged fuel pump then let it run for 1-2 mins on fumes that where in the intake or somewhere.. then it died. Plugged pump back in started it up.. drove around some and it acts like it never happened.. wtf Ethel!!!

Oil pressure readings are what they were before and no changes there.. I let it idle after I drove around for a few to let whatever else burn off.

So hopefully no serious damage?
Would an injector have caused that?

The only thing that could cause that much fuel in the pan is a leaky injector, or more likely multiple injectors by the amount of fuel in the pan.

If you have a fuel pressure gauge, hook it up and turn the key on. Take note of the pressure reading. Shut the key off and watch your pressure. Normally, it will drop a couple of psi key off. It should hold some residule pressure on the line. If it's dropping to zero in less than 10 minutes it would be smart to look at the injectors closer.

When I built the harness and installed the motor I checked that, it was holding 42 psi for 3 days with no drop. But now it may have developed a couple bad ones.. we’ll see if that comes up again. I’ll keep an eye on the oil

7 extra quarts of gas in the oil and you say you might have a couple bad ones... That's the understatement of the year. A couple leaking might make it a little hard to start or have to cycle the key a couple of times in order to get enough fuel in the line for it to start. 7 quarts of fuel much more significant than a couple of leaky injectors. It has to be doing this while it's running. I'm surprised it's not setting a bunch of rich fuel trim codes.

All I'm saying is you fixed the symptom, but not the cause. Sure it's starting and running like normal now because you drained all the fluid from the pan which was high enough for the crank to be slapping the fluid each time a counterweight swung around. I know KOH is on the brain at this point, but I don't think I'd road trip this one until the problem is sorted out.

I log almost every time i drive this truck, i would see a consistent rich trend way before the ecm set the code, the wideband would sit at 10:1 all day long and not move, or heck it would at least hover lower in the afr range than normal.
I believe this was an isolated incident. If not Ill be the first to admit I was wrong. The engine has a warranty for 12k miles, that included the injectors, I am going to call LKQ today and have them send me a set to swap into the truck.

That sucks, but good you caught it before something really bad happened.

Yea I am too.. I am nervous because I have no way of telling what injector was bad and lkq is probably going to supply me with used parts. So I am going to need to watch this like a hawk.. dammmmiiitttt I can’t win

annnd that special warranty i bought does not cover the injection even thought a$$hat I bought it from told be it covered the whole damn thing and the electronics.

That sucks. I had a Ford once at work that had an injector stuck open. Ran like crap, tons of white smoke. Pulled the rail off with the injectors and I could clearly see the one that was soaking wet. I replaced them all.

Dude that BLOWS. Well at least it's an easy thing to swap out instead of a damn lifter or something that you have to pull the heads off for. Injector is just a few ratchet turns.
