84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
Back to tech.. ok first few items.
Does anyone know if a late 96+ internal clutch slave will work on a early 93 and older nv4500?

Not without machining the bell housing. The later clutch slave sits into the back of the BH and the retaining rings on the tranny face are of different diameters.

I'm not sure what all you'd hafta mod to get that combination to work. Might be as simple as giving AA a call? :dunno:

Not what I am talking about I mean the slave that goes over the bearing retainer.

Post a picture of what you have. The bearing retainer is different and the later bell housing has a large square cut out where your input hole is round. I don't think you can simply bolt up the internal slave to the front face of your early gear case.

I'm not finding a good picture of the case, but this kinda illustrates the extra cutout for the internal slave. AFAIK, the retainer is also different to accomodate mounting the slave. That's what will cause you issues in using the newer clutch setup.

I've found that mrwhitels1 used a Howe internal throwing bearing on his swap, for the sake of keeping the sides of the engine clear for exhaust I think I might do this.. I actually could use that original bell housing and an internal slave... hmm either way I either have to make brackets for the external slave and 465 bellhousing which crowds up the exhaust area or I am drilling and tapping the face of the trans.. using the old bellhousing and the internal slave saves me time.. I gotta write this down lol.

Why not just keep the clutch linkage in current form?
