84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
Yeah I have seen a lot of that on semis and stuff over yrs.
Wow, crazy.

So I noticed with the condenser research that there was a couple options on fittings, #6-8 also quick connect style along with o ring style.. I think that's on there is AN style?? What's common place?? I'd like to not have some weird fittings if I am going to replace the condenser and dryer at least.

Talk to a good parts guy at a big truck dealer. They will usually have books and be able to get any kind of compressor and clutch like that. The most common stuff I'm used to are the o-ring style like a p/s hose connection. At least on older stuff. You could try looking at Red Dot maybe but I'm not sure how spendy there stuff is.

I'll see what the local OO or franklin has, my work deals with them a lot, before I disconnected it I stuck a belt on and checked that the clutch was good and the compressor wasn't froze up. I'm gonna run it.

Cool! Usually from what I've seen as long as it's not low on oil and wasted the internals the main problem is the front seal leaking slowly or the clutch windings/bearing taking a crap but that is easy to replace.

It will just add more volume to your a/c charge and more desiccant to catch any moisture in the system. I'd stay the same if it's a readily available one.

Been driving Ethel all week, hot or cold regardless just so I can assess the comfort or lack of it haha... so based on really rough calcs because my odometer is off and I couldn't remember the location I filled up I am either getting 13.8 or 16 mpg.. I know for a fact I went more than 265 miles on the tank just not sure how much more.
Soo return to the nv4500. If I can rouse my buddy who works nights I'll have that trans asap, I gotta get the rear main resealed also. Along with resurfacing the flywheel.
I have been too busy to check out the condenser situation but that should be clear as day this weekend and I should be ordering parts and making hoses and having cool ac by next week.

I get about 16 mpg with my k5 6.2, 700r4, 4:10, and 35s doing 65 mph to and from work. 50 miles round trip and mostly all flat. I have to run in 3 when it's windy at all. Definitely likes the higher rpm when it comes to power on the highway.

Same here, but I have either steep or long hills on the ride home and it is in the pass so I am usually floored or close just to be 5 mph below the speed limit and most times lower. So turbo and nv4500..
