84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
Well crap, welded up the rear diff and I either have a sheeting sound from the case or the trans under a load. It has to be a decent load but it's there for sure.
And the case is puking fluid, I thought it might be because I don't have a hose on the vent but it pukes a lot.. no idea why..

I decided to install the new dash and seats so they didn't get damaged from moving around during the JT built. The seats are not even completely mounted, I still have to make the floor riser.
The dash insert on mine I guess is specific to the aftermarket ac?? The vents were different and the center vent actually seals against the evap box..
Either way I'm happy that the dash is presentable, and I can get a dash topper and you'll never know it's cracked.
The seats need cleaned and possibly covers. The jury is still out on that. They are comfortable though!

I also spoke with a friend of mine about the engine trans plans and he flat out told me it would be much faster and more thorough to pull the motor out and reseal it vs trying to do this in the truck. So the motor comes out!! As soon as my garage becomes available.

Considering it will likely be all of the seals, I prob should anyway. This way I can also check to make sure there is no more shotty work or possible failing freeze plugs etc.

Solved a major issue this weekend, picked up a 14 bolt from a buddy for 200$ with no carrier, which I have sourced from another buddy, it's a gov lock and 3.73s so that'll work fine for Ethel, the welded rear in a truck pretty much sucks. It's not as bad on a blazer because of the shorter wheelbase.. o well she still busts donuts pretty good.. slow motion donuts.. anyone need a Dana 70 lol
For the record, I wanted a gen 2 axle anyway because I like the drum brakes, they're huge, good for towing heavy stuff and I still retain a parking brake.. now I can get the same brakes for the wife's burb and Ethel..

Yay! I love having real brakes on a full float. Can't believe it took them so long to join the modern era.

So what year was the start of the second gen axle?

The body switch in 91?

My 93 has the finned axle. But non removable drums. I thought that the removable drums and finned axle casting went together..... But the first time I went to go do brakes it was a no go...
I have never quite hammered down a date for the change over...

I think ours just has the smooth casting with no fins.

What's your definition of that?

I am willing to hook with you too. You will have no chance in your wannabe 4wd

Lol just messing with you guys.

Personally I'd predict my half-fried tranny to fail after a few seconds, leaving Greg pulling a 2WD camper wheelie with a CCLB.

This would be worth watching...
