84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
Hahaha you guys crack me up.. thanks to @bergerking for coming down to help me rip this from its tomb.. now I guess it'll get Ls swapped, I only have about 3500$ left to put in this. I gotta sell all my turbo 6.5 crap now!! And the 6.2 stuff also.. anyone interested let me know I'll let it go cheap.

For the sake of conversation what is the split on mpg with a 6.0 or 5.3? Or could someone make a 6.0 mpg worthy with tuning??

They all get decent MPG if you don't drive like an ape

It's doable. Mine got 17 on the with 4.10s and TBI before I went to 37s

Bummer.

I'll offer the indefensible suggestion of an AMG P400, because who wouldn't want to drop $7500 on a brick house 6.5L?

Back to LS swap talk.

David

I'll keep my eyes peeled, so I think I am gonna use the schoenfeld swap headers.
So educate me on this whole 6.0 cam bearing debacle?? Is this a 6.0 only thing or do the 5.3 engines have the same issue?

Nothing to worry about.
It's a small issue and not one that's guaranteed on a 6.0. it's actually applicable for all LS stuff, 4.8,5.3,6.0.
It can happen to stock stuff but alot of horror storys are coming from aftermarket cam installs as well.
You can pin the bearings if you would like, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Nor am I going to worry about it with my impending 6.0 build.

As I said, it happens but with amount of engines out there it's a small issue.

What's the stuff to look for when buying a used ls? Is it reasonable to ask for them to pull the pan to check the main bearings cylinders etc??
How can you check if the cam bearings are good without looking?? Or should I buy a runner, pull it down ring, bearing and gasket it?
