84 K20 "Ethel" Not an Sbc/NV4500/241C

Semi restoration of a 1984 K20 pickup. 5.3 LS, nv4500, np241c.
15.7mpg??? That’s lame! My 2wd 5.7 tbi half ton is getting around 12mpg... could have something to do with the 60mph wind gusts, and hills? Oh and I’m pretty sure it needs timed too. Either way I just need to drop in a 5.3 to fix my mileage.

But really...
This is cool. This truck has come a long way and I honestly didn’t imagine it being this sweet. If you drive out here and pick it up I’ll make you a killer deal on a 60 to get rid of the 10 bolt.

Thanks @F.S.F.W it’s been a ton of work and lots of brain scrambling with the tuning and wrapping my head around some concepts that I only partially understand so lots of testing is happening but I’ll no longer be afraid of this stuff..

Yeah you’re in way over my head... If I get a basic hands on lesson I’m usually good to go with things like this but I couldn’t just sit down and make my brain work like that. When you take a road trip up here you can walk me through it. Haha

Well... the exhaust is done and on..
the cooling fans are louder than the truck at idle..
there is absolutely no drone or resonance inside the truck. I feel like I cutoff my manhood :( but it’s for my hearing and sanity lol. These are collectors from summit racing they’re actually nice and sealed well.

Routed around the tcase and I have 3/4-1 inch of clearance around the inside of the bend at the top.

I also reused the oem hangars and routed the tailpipe out the side for now until I can decide what I am going to do with it. It may get extended out the rest of the way if I stay with this setup. The muffler is clamped if I decide I want to change it.

Here’s the blackwidow mufflers back to back on the y pipe, it actually got a lot quieter but it would be gnarly to drive still.

And this is with the magnaflow.

Also the transfer case issue I had is fixed so no more vibes and the trans is also quieter but the groan isn’t completely gone but it’s much less apparent.

I am in the same position as you. I like the badass sound, but I know how it affects hearing and some sanity....
I bet that you will get used to the Magnaflow. But just to throw a bug in your head, if you blew some cash on flanges, you could weld pipe to the black widow to make it drop in place of the Magnaflow with just a few bolts...
I don't know if you can get V band for this?

It’s one bolt and a clamp to swap them out.. that was on purpose.. a vband would be better but it’s what I had.
I still wanna head a larger case BW to see if it’ll be somewhere in the middle..

I think your exhaust job looks familiar. :waytogo:

I'm not a magnaflow guy, even though I totally understand the sound level needed to come down. I like the way mine sounds with the Super 44.

For what it's worth my truck is much mellower sounding in person than on my phone for whatever reason...

I bet it’s because your in the garage. Those flowmaster super 44 sound good though

Yeah, from my ears standpoint it sounds mellow and good, but the phone's mic is picking up echoes off the nearby walls and stuff.
