The wiring in my 84 diesel K5 has been a source of frustration and problems for years. From electrical fires and non-starting issues to unnecessary run ins with the law for various lights not functioning.

Not long ago, nearly all the stock gauges had stopped working, and i ripped out the dash (sheet metal included) intending to rewire and cage the truck. School/life got busy, but now i have about a month to kick my ass into high gear and get it all done.

I purchased this universal 12 cicruit wiring harness/fuse block from NWautowire to help with the process.

The truck is diesel, and from all the problems in the past, i have a push button starter and manual glow plug solenoid circuits already wired.

I am completely lost trying to figure out the steering column wiring and feel like a bit of an idiot. I have a technical (mechanical engineering) background and have been wrenching for years, but wiring and electricity confuse me.

I essentially need to figure out the turn signals, hazard, and wiper wiring in the steering column. I am going to delete the factory ignition and go with a key/ missile swithc ignition combo, and retain my push button starter and glowplugs.

I got rid of the factory headlight switch, and tried to run a new relay powered circuit in the past, but that got all buggered.

Help?

Rick

I am making some progress, I have cut out all the wiring relating to the power windows/locks, the hvac system, and the cruise control.

I am wary to touch the steering column wiring before I understand how the circuitry works... I found the harness for the turn signals/flashers/etc but don't know how it works. is there one hot wire run into the column that powers each or ?

also, I am not planning on using any of the factory gauges. will bad thing happen if I remove all the harness that run to the instrument cluster?

thanks in advance.

Anybody? ok i will repost asking if anyone has i wiring diagram so i can figure it out myself.
