Np208 i believe its leaking at the rear side at the tail housing to case seal. Pile of rtv around it now, easy fix? Do i have to remove entire case or jus unbolt tail housing? What fluid to replace it with? I have never removed drive shaft easy ? What to refill it with Gear oil or atf? Rtv or gasket? Any tips or tricks ? As always thanks lol

To Clarify,,its the part that is circled in REd that is leaking from the main case

Easy fix. Four bolts to unbolt the housing, seal with RTV, refill with ATF. Use putty knife and rubber mallet (if necessary) to break the seal, it just slides straight off the back. 1/2 hour fix if you take your time.

Well the problem is, its not ATF leaking out, looks like regular oil (gear oil?)

Well i double checked what was coming out, it is kinda oily but Im guessing there is so much dirt and grim that its turning the ATF into mud and that is what im seeing. Everything im reading now says Dextron ATF so thats what ill use. I also wonder if the shop that replaced my front seal on the Tcase put in the wrong oil, ill find out once I drain it and refill.

So, it seems simple but want to clarify.

1) remove rear drive shaft

2) Remove speedo cable

3) remove 4 bolts to tail housing

4) remove tail housing.

There is nothing behind the tail housing or anything else to unbolt, unhook, unstrap or what not?

Can't help with personal experience, this video help? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3U-GmavYEM

My understanding is these cases (both the 208 and 241) are exceedingly simple to tear down and rebuild, I don't recall anything specific to the 208 about the output shaft housing portion.

Thats funny, I was just watching that video before I came on here, Yea its simple from what ive seen.

As far as that guys videos, yea it helped but man, he needs to learn a word called "editing", horrible mush mouth, bad angles for camera work (blocks most of the shots) and a lil too much "Huh, how does that work" stuff, lol. Kinda hard to take him serious. lol. oh well, was enough for me to get the hint of what ill encounter

What transmission do you have?

If you have a sm465 that is filled with gear oil, the input seal on the t case is leaking and you need to pull t case and replace the seal.

208 should have atf in it. Not gear oil.

Well got everything apart and got stuck in rain storm so had to stop.

When I drained the T-Case, about 5 quarts came out. My manual says 3 quarts go back in.

So, how much do I put in? Go to the fill plug or 3 quarts like manual says?

yea, alot of mixed on that.

I know that when I pulled the vent line off and let it hang (have vent line run from Tcase up to engine bay) that a i had a decent about of Trans fluid come out of it. That is why Im wondering about filling it up that much, it might actually be too much. Dunno.

Going through this right now with my 241. I always filled the 208 to the fill hole, no problems. Now with the 241 I did the same, and it was to much (puked some out the vent). So with the 208, I say fill it to the fill hole.

Well, im going with the manual *3 qts, esp. after seeing how much drained out of my vent tube.

I think I found a sealant that might actually work, so far no leaks. I went to the GM dealer and talked to the service dept.

They recommended this on everything. So far so good. It sets up fast though. And not cheap.

Run synthetics, I was off roadin & cracked my case (unknown to me), got home ...."OH crap "! .....went to the shop everything was OK.. Mechanic - "Glad your running synthetics, that was the only thing that saved your gear set" .
