I am thinking about buying a 84 K5. I am new to the blazer world and would
appreciate any insight. I want the vehicle mostly to carry myself, dog and
camping stuff to my property over unmaintained roads. Maybe some light
4 wheeling. The truck I like is basically stock, never been lifted.
Probably never will be, I don't want to head down that slippery
slope.

The body is in darn good shape, original paint, but no rust. The interior is
in good shape also. The engine has been rebuilt about 80K ago. It runs
well, a small puff of smoke when it started cold. No smoke after that.
The valves sound good, and the engine (350) pulled well. The tranny
was rebuilt about 45K ago, shifted crisply. The 4x4 system seemed to work
well, no clunking, whining or grinding.

I did find a few leaks. Valve covers, power steering and rear differential.
The drivers side door needs new bushings.

About 180K on the vehicle. The guy is asking $2800. I would appreciate
comments and things to look out for.

Buy it.

The small puff of smoke is nothing. I've yet to see a chevy that didn't.

Go With It.

I agree, take it. You said it has no rust, that is the way to go. Mechanical problems are easy fix. Rust on the otherhand, especially a lot of it, is a pain in A$$. Well, maybe see if you can knock the price down to $2200 or something, worth a shot. You might be suprised. Goodluck

The body is for sure the most important part........you can do an awful lot of repairs for what it costs to cut out rust and paint your rig. All the rebuilt stuff is a nice touch too. I wish all I had to worry about was door pins! And, of course, 84 was a real nice year.......

Speaking of door pins...My grandpa gave me his '84 Jimmy last week. 37,000 original miles. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, coil, dist, rotor. It runs great (17-18 mpg w/ 305 v-8) Anyway, the only thing really wrong with it is that both doors are really hard to shut. I can see where the striker pin is being rubbed by the latch, but how do I adjust this? Is this a common problem? Thanks Brad

First of all, Brad, NICE SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!! You had better take care of that truck. Anyways, my Blazer doesn't have problems with the door pins, but I have an 83 6.2 half ton that is sagging on the passenger door. My mother-in-law's husband says it's an easy fix, but I have yet to get around to getting him over to fix it. Does any one know how to fix 'em up?

got the same problem with both of my doors, I was thinking of ordering all new hinges from LMC since I've never replaced the pins and it looks like a pain
