OK so obviously there are difference. My tilt column in the 84 suburban has the updated wiper/blinker/Hi beam control lever. It also had cruise control. My 81 truck has wiper on the dash as well as high beam on the floor. I want to use the tilt column, obviously. What will need to change? I have the full donor suburban with the column so i just need to know what needs to be swapped over.

You don't have to change unless you want to. The tilt will work.

I know the plugs for ignition is the same. I'll be deleting the automatic shifter on the tilt column. It's good and tight...just wondering if there was anything else I need to consider.

Do you want to keep your wipers as they are? Pretty easy fix there, yank out the '84 stalk and stick the one from the '81 in it.

Be careful on the turn signal switch connector. I want to think the pinout changed throughout the years. Or at least verify with a wiring diagram that the common wires (turn signals, hazards, key buzzer, horn, whatever else) are all in the same position on the connector. I also want to think the connectors themselves are the same?

Fitting the 84 components into the '81 is a bit tougher, but doable of course. I personally like the later dimmer/cruise/wiper on the column.

The headlight switch moved when the wiper switch got moved to the turn lever. So it isn't just swapping the cluster bezel, you would have to move the mounting location in the steel.
