Hey guys, I have a pretty quick question regarding my tow rig.

I have an 85 crew cab dually soon to be 4x4 and I plan on running about a 2" lift just to gain some steering clearance and tire clearance.

On the rear I can't decide what would give me the most peace of mind while towing. 2" rear lift springs, 2" lift blocks, or a shackle flip.

What do you fellas think

Are you going for 2" of lift over a stock 4x4? Do you plan on swapping to the 4x4 rear leaf spring hangers? How heavy do you tow?

Personally I would go Springs or blocks if you tow a lot, almost all new 3/4 and 1ton trucks have rear blocks. As long as you get quality ones and keep the u-bolts tight I think you should be good. Make sure you do a build thread on the 2x4 to 4x4 I love watching those!

Yeah I should've said 2" over a stock 4x4. And I'll be towing a K5 and full size bronco

What's the difference in the 4x4 to 2wd rear spring hanger

The 2wd hangers are about 3" shorter then the 4wd so you would need something like a 5" block to achieve your desired 2" of lift. If you a can get the 4wd hangers they should swap in but I don't know how well the holes line up. I kind of took the easy way out when I didn't my 2wd to 4wd swap, I just swapped chassis.

Here is a good tread about the swap your looking at, it is a bit of a read but the second link is to a search inside the thread for the rear spring hangers. Mrk5 does a good job of address some of the things your looking at.

A little further in his tread (post 873) he had a set built built by Diy4x. I don't know if the bolt pattern is different between the 2wd and 4wd but it's a option, also the shackle side is shorter on the 2wd too.
