Hey guys, I got a 85 c30 crew cab dually with a th400 that's slipping bad. But due to recent project changes I happen to have a sm465 np205 with pedals and hydro setup ready to go in. Now can I just get a flywheel and clutch and bolt that setup in and cut a hole in the floor for the t case shifter and call it a day. Just basically have a two wheel drive with a transfer case, or a super low range for really heavy loads lol

You could do that, but I don't know why. 2wd SM465s sell for $50-100. I would use the Hydro setup with a 2wd transmission.

Well I just have the sm465 and twin stick 205 chillin in the floor and I think it's a waste to just have it sitting there not being used. Ohh I recently rebuilt them both

That would be the place to start!..

Heads up,you might not fit a NP-205 under a 2wd cab without a body lift or a "floor hump" modification though...
I had a 2wd cab on my '77 GMC and I had to make the "tunnel" longer and fab up a steel "hat" to cover it,and it had a 3" body lift on it also...some years and model cabs vary at the tunnel and it may just clear, others wont...yours being a C30 CC,it might not be an issue at all..

I've seen guys put a 2wd tranny in a 4x4 when thats all they had on hand, just to keep the truck driveable till they got the money up to fix the original tranny.

But I have seen only one truck that someone put a 4x4 tranny and transfer case in it and left it 2wd...the owner told me he was going to "finish" converting it someday, but never followed thru...he told he he "blew the rear end" one day using low range to drag some huge trees he cut down out of his back yard one day...low range doubles the torque from the engine and tranny, his 10 bolt didn't like it!..turned out he just stripped the splines on the pinion yoke--I did the same thing to my '72 K5 doing burnouts in low range with the hubs unlocked once......had to lock the hubs and limp home in 4wd ,using the front end to pull me home..

Haha that's funny, I had a 99 Sierra with a blown rear end and I use to do front wheel drive burnouts all the time lol.

But yea hopefully the t case will fit under the floor, I figure if the truck had the option of a 4 speed factory it should clear. But idk yet

I put an '85 C30 crew cab onto my K20 Suburban frame with an SM465/NP205 combo. I had to cut the floor pan hump from the Sub body and weld it into the C30 floor for it to work. This was with no body lift.
