85 K30 rear brake setup,,

i have a crew cab k30 i am shortening to shortbed, the rear brakes have a linkage for "surge" braking I guess. Thoughts on removing the mess? and plumbing rear brakes like normal. how about rear discs on this heavy of a truck,i allready have a set up for 14 bolt on a 3/4 ton truck, but this truck is lots heavier...
 
2 things.

1 its a load sensing brake proportioning valve unit. = get rid of it no problems.

second a 14full floater will be fine in the truck. and disk brakes will make it just that much better for brakes. and the only problem i see is you said its a 3/4 ton axle. and you have a 1 ton truck now. the spring pads and shock tabs are in diffrent places. thay will need to be moved. but no big deal .

do some searching up top in the garage section lots of info in there.
 
Get rid of the load sensing valve and plumb the rear brakes directly to the existing line thats hooked to the load valve.
 
I have an 85' C30 and was wondering if taking the load-proportioning valve off would benefit braking? Right now it seems like my front brakes are doing to much of the braking. I know the front brakes do a lot more braking that the back, but it just seems like my fronts are doing to much. Would taking the valve off "level" the braking between the front and back out a little bit? Just curious, Thanks.
 
The valve limits pressure depending on the ride height = load sensing. Removing it gives full pressure to the rear brakes. I cannot comment on just how much more pressure you get.
 
My understanding of the way these work is they limit pressure to the rear brakes. When you slam on the brake and the nose dives and the ass lifts up, this keeps the rear wheels now with little weight on them from locking up. No ill effects I know of for leaving it in place. Removing it could make for dicey braking in a situation under heavy braking in a turn or when wet. Just a thought though.
