Alright -- just got an 85 k5 blazer. Truck was running great 1st day-- drove it about 65 miles. The next day i decided to take it offroad a bit. Now it was raining slightly at this point. So i took it out on a trail and was moving farily slowly for about a half mile. When i slowed to a stop i noticed it was idling much lower than usual and it seemed to have a miss. It continued on like this all the way home. After looking it over-- checking spark plug wires etc, i decided to take it out and open it up on the highway. After doing this for a few miles i slowed down and it was running great again. Holds idle just like before and no miss.

Now i am wondering what caused this. I have a few ideas but just want to see if anyone can cofirm that these could be issues.

1. Running rich-- i know it is running rich (can smell the gas slightly) and am thinking that going slow on the trail could have cause one of the plugs to get wet and start the missing. When i opened it up on the highway it cleared that out and started running good again.

2. Getting wet- Although it was a small rain -- maybe the distributor got wet and it got dried out after going on the highway..

I am thinking the first on but figured i would put that up.

Thanks for any help guys-- Glad to be owning a chevy again

This made me think of ASE exams. "Mechanic A says it could be running rich and started fouling the plugs. Mechanic B says the distributor must have gotten wet."
Who is correct?
A. mechanic A
B. mechanic B
C. Both
D. Neither

I'm going with Mechanic A as well. HEI distributors don't have problems THAT easy from a little moisture. If you said you were bombing through mudholes my answer may be different.:D

old crappy wires could have gotten a little moisture on them causing your low idle/miss.

I am also leaning toward running rich-- i also forgot to mention motor is a rebuilt 350 and has about 10k miles on it. I will prob adjust the carb, just don't want to make it too lean (would much rather error on the rich side).

When I'd go wheeling in my old 81 K5 with an Edelbrock 4 bbl, I'd get to bouncing around a bit and would upset the level in the float bowl and it would run like crap for a while, die, low idle, missing, etc. only after several minutes idling it high or highway driving would it return to normal. I really doubt moisture is the problem, as the engine bay would get much more wet at 65 mph with all the road spray and what not, then going slow on a trail. Just my guess.
