first things first, fill in your user profile and you'll get a lot more responses to your questions..

the 85 has the quadrajet with electric choke...to make it easy go ahead and get an aftermarket carb with the electric choke, just swap the one wire and the ground over to the new carb and thats done...

if its street only, try the edelbrock performer w/ electric choke, they're pretty nice for daily drivers...
the electric choke equipped carbs cost a little more, but it saves you from having to run a manual choke to the cab..

good luck

yes you can leave electrical for the Q jet disconnected when you put on aftermarket carb, if the Qjet is in good running shape then save it someone could use it im sure

good luck

Read the '86 preliminary manual last night.

That's a dual capacity pump. It's purpose is to provide extra fuel for cold engine idle-cruise transition. At 170* the solenoid energizes, eliminating the supply of additional fuel used for the cold temp transition period. If it were me I'd leave it alone, it hurts nothing, disconnected, it would unnecessarily hurt mileage.
