85 K5

Mateas' 85 K5 build
Top is off and getting sanded, started sanding the body. New seals on everything when it all goes back together, gonna rebuild the tailgate window set up too, like to get one of those gear driven kits but man are those pricey... Just ordered Dakota Digital HDX gauges, BIM's for GPS speed, gear shift selector and Holley interface, and a Sniper 2 from Summit. Hope to paint it the end of this month.

New bling just arrived, 35-13.50-20 Venom's on Vision wheels. Sniper 2 is installed, Hyperspark hooked up, Holley power distribution block wired, Dakota Digital's wired. The Holley in-tank pump was bad from the get go, waiting on a new one from Summit. Edelbrock Victor Jr ruins those gorgeous valve covers.... Got Hedman ceramic coated headers waiting to install. Started putting the PVC paint booth together out front. Carpet, dash and seats are ready to go back in, and box after box of new interior waiting for a rainy day. Also decided to paint the top white, it's in primer right now cuz I'm filling in the seams and it convinced me to paint it white instead of body color (although it came body color from the factory).

Top is painted, didn't turn out too bad, but one should NOT paint, then mow, then come in and put another coat of clear on, cuuuuuz you tend to get grass in those last two coats... just a little on top, nobody in the world will ever see it. Dakota Digital HDX's installed and all running, having actually set them up yet. Sniper 2 is up and running, Hyperspark distributer, Power Distribution Module all working. Gonna paint the truck next week.

Man, lotta work since these early pics! Interior is almost back together. Reupholstered the seats, new door panels, dash pad, gauges, carpet, later model Tahoe rear seat, made the rear panels, painted the truck (only half is cut and buffed at this point). Did get a whopper of a run when a fan fell against my arm but nothing some sanding and repainting didn't fix. Haven't put the top back on yet, want to get the side panels done and mounted first, makes it easier to get them in/out without the top. paint.jpgRUN.jpgPAINT TEST.jpgINTERIOR PANEL.jpgINTERIOR PANEL 2.jpgINTERIOR PANEL 3.jpgSEAT RECOVER.jpgTAILGATE BAND.jpginterior 3.jpgOVERALL.jpgINTERIOR PANEL 3.jpgSEAT RECOVER.jpginterior 3.jpg

New tailgate band from LMC arrived bent, fortunately they sent me a new one without a hassle. I've ordered quite a bit of stuff from them for this build (being the only ones that handle alot of this stuff) and I'll have to say their QC is non-existent. They didn't have anything to do about this band, but man a surprising number of my orders arrived with either missing parts, the wrong parts, bad parts from the beginning, and their shipping is NUTS, but they put the smallest part in a huge box just so you have to pay more, it's like dude, get SMALLER BOXES, learn from Amazon!

Not a lot of lmc stuff I like.

Truck is looking good the retro plaid is cool

Man, been awhile since I've updated the build. New (to me) built 355 is going in this week. For only having 76k original miles, whatever is in it now is a DOG, and leaks oil like the Beverly Hillbillies. GM aluminum heads are at the machine shop, nice thumpy cam, guy that's building it used to run NTPA series back in the day. Added a console/jump seat from a '24 Silverado. You do lose storage space compared to the factory one but I wanted an arm rest and actual cup holders. Going to wire in a couple USB chargers to it. Going to make the truck 2-tone in two weeks, I bought some white shelf liner and taped it on the truck to see if I'd like it, and I don't know HOW I didn't do this from the beginning! LOVE the retro paint job. Gonna have it wrapped in pearl material instead of painting it, just too much work to repaint all that.
