I have a slow moving build of an 85 Suburban that is mostly "clean survivor", but was butchered by a "conversion company". That conversion interior was, as usual, complete garbage, and was the first thing ripped out and sent to the land fill. I then bought a complete interior out of a 90 2WD Suburban. I thought, the only thing that will not work will be the front carpet over the hump. But I'm finding there are other issues, like not having the bucket rear brackets for the front seats. My latest conundrum centers on the 3rd row seat belts.

The 90 interior I have had the retractors bolted to substantially reinforced side panels. My 85 doesn't have that feature. It appears that for 85, the seat belts were bolted to the floor just inboard of the rear wheel wells. So, I think I may just cap off the holes in the side panels, and try to find a close match to the tan interior (or paint) in an 85 retractor.

Does anyone have a picture of an 85 3rd seat belt set? I assume (a bad idea with a Suburban) that the center receivers will work with the 85 belts? Any thoughts or additional facts much appreciated...

Did the 85 have shoulder belts? I gave a couple of 3rd row seats away over the years (86's) and as I recall they just had lap belts attached to the seat...I know the 89 & 90 had shoulder belts

There are definite typical reinforced shoulder mounts in the upper window frame, and reinforced floor mounts just inside the wheel wells. I assumed that meant it had retractors on the floor, but don't recall seeing them, which is why I posted this.

The 90 3rd row I have has the 2 female receivers attached to the third row frame, and I have the 90 wall mounted retractors.

My buddy and I have been kicking around maybe just doing a load spreader in lieu of the factory reinforced side panels, and mounting them as if it were a later model. That has the added bene of putting the retractor boxes in the same place to cover the witness marks in the 90 side panels. Also, more floor space without the retractors in the way down there.
