Im looking for a new body tub for my 76 k5 I mite have found one but it is an 86 body I know the lines and contours are the same but are the mounting points the same as well or will it be more work then its worth ???

Will an 86 k5 body mount correctly on a 76 k5 frame ???

And will it accept the nose to a 76 k5 ???

the frame is different and the nose isn't a bolt on...

It will require minor work, but it's doable.
The front clip is actually pretty easy, most my buddies did the opposite, put a newer clip on the older body and they needed to modify the cowl area to take the new hinges. The other way around would be easy bolt on... The frame however will require something to take up the difference in height on the mounts and I think one has to be relocated, still not awfull lot to modify.
If you found a good clean tub, it could be worth it.

im actually in the same boat, but opposite years. mine is a 90 and i bought a 78 tub/frame. other than the cowl for the hinges, what else is there to make the 90 front clip work on the 78 frame?

The front body mount is I think taller on the newer style, easy to deal with.

On pre-78s, the body mounts near the back of the cab are on the inside of the frame instead of the outside. They moved them outboard when they increased rear seat leg room by having the tub deeper at that point.

So, in addition to all the above mentioned issues with the front end, you'll have to move those two body mounts to the outside of the frame.

I actually did this swap and it wasnt too bad. I put a 78 tub on a 73 frame. Had to move a couple of mounts and use a 2" body lift, but it worked just fine. The earlier frame swoops up right behind the front seats, so when you try to use the later tub such as the 86 with more leg room for the rear passingers, the floor pan hits the frame. On mine the body lift raised it up enough to clear. Hope this helps.
