86 Crew Long

Nice crew cab! :thumb:

I swapped frames to make my truck a 4x4 but I had all the parts and they were cheap. A crew 4x4 frame would be hard to find.

I want to watch cause I know you will do a super nice job on it.

y5mgisi.......I'm just over in Vancouver, Wa.

Sounds like there are lots of options. I'm leaning towards DIY4x stuff at this point. Need to go parts shopping. Thanks again.

Talked with DIY4X today about the B52 brackets. Not too fired up on running a 52" spring. I rather have the stock 47-48" spring? Maybe I can still run the stock spring length with the B52's? If I do go with the 52's will it be too flexible or have a real soft feeling? I also don't believe the holes will line up. That not that big of deal though. I am mainly building this truck for towing our travel trailer, getting fire wood etc.

I talked with Kurt about this and you can run the stock length spring with the b52 bracket. The holes will also not match up.

There is another thread that just popped up on here converting 2wd to 4x4 and he used ford super duty front springs to keep his more a stock height...

I agree, super flexy will be bad if you want to tow and haul. I'd keep the sway bar too...

anybody mention you will need cross over steering..?

:popcorn:This is what I would like to see debated...I`ve heard from a couple of guys on this forum that it will work fine, until you want to flex it out. Then you will have the problems with steering. :dunno:

I would be willing to try 52s on the front of mine if it would work. I`m not looking for rock crawler articulation, but would like a smooth ride and a lift.

Not wanting to highjack this thread! So maybe I should ask in my own spot.

That was me, the only problem with superduty springs is that the B52/A-BOMB kits wont accept the 3" wide springs. I had talked to Kert and with the way they are built he couldn't modify them to work with the 3" springs. I ended up using the factory mounts. I dont know exactly how much lift they gave me or how the ride at the moment but when I do I will post updates in my build thread.

Ok guys back from vacation. I'm going to be ordering parts and wanted to double check a couple things. On the DIY4x front spring hanger after they are bolted up do they add any additional lift from a factory spring hanger? Reason being I want a 6" lift and to run a 37" tire didnt know if they add anther inch or two? Also on the REAR suspension I know that the front hangers are roughly 3" shorter....instead of replacing the hangers think I could just buy 6" lift springs and run a 3" block...or am I screwed up here. just want it to sit level with little to no rake. Thanks for the help.

Here are a couple pics of after getting it back from detail. much better!

The Ord front spring hanger, are you talking about the shackle hanger? I wasn't aware that they did a frontspring mount. For the rear, I would do a shackle flip, aand block to get where I needed to be. But I don't see why you couldn't do springs and blocks.

diy4x is the one he mentioned

Oops... You said diy and I read Ord... If your looking to end up with 6" lift, I would run 4" springs. The 60 has the slightly taller spring pads, the diy mounts appear to give up to an inch of lift, and if it still wasn't quite at 6" you could just run a 1" zero rate and be all set. That would probably give a little better ride than the 6" springs would anyway.

Ok Gents, Well..... I stumbled across a 84" 4x4 Crew Cab that wasn't For Sale and ended up scoring a great deal! So abort the Red Crew its going on CL. Too bad I already bought and recieved the DIY4X B52's, Rear HD shackle brackets and 6" Springs....I will try and move that stuff on CL I guess. Anyway picked her on Friday it has been sitting awhile so I had it towed home. It had an Electric pump for some reason and he said it would just die on him going down the road...hmm I looked around and found a new electric pump installed...decided to get rid of the electric pump bought a new $28 dollar mechanical pump ran a couple lines and cleaned the water out of the tank and she fired right up! Took it around the block all good...Loaded up the truck with a dump run and cruised it around town. Cheap 1ton! Its going to need rockers other than cosmetic it's all complete! While I was there he had a LS 5.3 complete with harness and computer that he was going to put in the truck, I asked about it and for an extra $500 it was mine! The truck came with new in the box Warn premium hubs, new PS hoses and a steering gear. Anyway on to pics..first ones it was a little green from sitting I hit it with psi washer in the later pics
