86 engine computers

does anyone know if there is a difference in p/n between the 305 ecm and the 350. i'm trying to swap engines with minimal effort and still retain all the goverment control...em i mean the pollution control stuff.

This is late, but '86 didn't have a computer. It used a ESC for the distributor which I recommend you chunk in the garbage and replace with a standard HEI.

the 86 i have had a computer that ran the carburater and a few other things. My truck also came with the hei distributer. When i swapped in a 350 for the 305 i just bybassed most of the computer controlled carb.

86 did come with a computer.. I believe it was the first and last year of the computer controlled carbs.. I am not sure but I think you will have to replace the chip....Dan

hmm thats a good question
i have an 85, it has the computer controlled electric choke, didnt know it was even in there till i saw it while replacing the heater core...
i swapped my 305 with a 350, plugged in the electric choke and it worked fine...
maybe i should have asked that question when i did my swap, but i didnt and it works fine
