been lurking on here and finally thought i should share my build

i found this 86 gmc jimmy on craigslist, was originally a 6.2/700r4 truck. then had a big block in it, it had a warn winch bumper and a warn 8274 winch, when i bought it it had a bone stock 350 4bbl and th400 out of a k20 in it, had mismatched 10 bolts in it and lift blocks on the front :dunno:

Body looked solid with some rust in rockers, but rear floors and tailgate area was rock solid, supposedly it had been parked for 10 years or so, looks to have had been original grey with blue down middle of truck.

ended up loading it on trailer for $1500:woot:

i picked up:
D60 drw and 14BFF for $600
AC Delco SRW hub assemblies for $400 pair
4 inch front springs for $75
flowtech headers
GLO disc brake brackets
Mile Marker SS hubs $50 from pawn shop
Diy4x shackle flip and switch with cross-tied shackles
zero rates
UD spring plates
Edelbrock preformer EPS
Edeljunk 600 carb
and proceeded to install....

heres some pics of the build

installed the dana 60 and shackle flip at work on my day off

for the rear i actually went thru 3 different 14 bolts to make one, had a cab and chassis 4:10 open i got with d60 didn't wanna mess with, picked up one from c30 that ended up being twisted bad and had 3:73 posi, then i got one from a 87 c30 burb that was suppose to be 4:10 but ended up being 3:73, so i used posi from one, gears from another, and the 87 housing.

ended up selling the 10 bolts, and a set of 3:73 gears, still got a set if someone needs them.

i also got skyjacker brake hoses, and got new calipers, pads, and rotors for front and rear, i had to take hitch off back to get shackle flip on might try to modify it and re install, i ended up putting the headers on and hooking them up to the duals that were on the truck from when it had a big block, but i will eventually bend up some 2.5 pipe and redo it.

more pics, got it driving with the tons underneath it, i had to get conversion u-joint for rear shaft, front bolted right up, i ended up swapping to a k30 master cylinder, i havent put the zero rates in yet should be in mail today, i got a set of 36x14.50x16.5 baja belteds, and some 16.5x9.75 rims and thru them on. im hopefully ordering diy4x crossover kit and either a TnA or ORD engine crossmember which one ya think would be best?

the other day i found a set of h2's with 2 sets of 315/70/17 for $150 so i bought those and installed, none of the power windows worked in the jimmy either so i got new dorman motors for the front and lubed up the tracks and regulators, i tore the rear apart to find the cable was frozen, i ended up freeing it up with some break away, and got rear window working after dealing with some connection problems and the safety switch, all the window slides in the rear have disintegrated so thinking about how to fix that

this is where im at right now

Shall I see you at the dunes???? Good lookin rig!

Good to see more local guys!:thumb:

I think either one would work well. I have only had experience with ORD's and it's freaking pimpin. But TnA's has some great qualities too.

That is one clean looking rig :waytogo:. What's your overall plan for it? Or is it pretty much there?

i was hoping to have it dune ready for opener, been working on it here and there when im slow at work, my plan is to have a streetable trail/dune truck that is a lil flexy

im also working on a 85 k10 shortbox for my cousin its got a 454/465/208 old school stiff lift with like a billion shocks, we bought a 87 k20 base model so swap all the heater stuff over, and the black interior,

and i got a 90 Gmc sierra from texas that i lowered 5/7 and have a cammed 6.0, swap headers, dirty dingo motor mounts, 4l80e, i built the engine harness.

basically all i do is work on stuff all the time.

Got my zero rates and UD spring plates from diy4x in today, and put new inner fenders and got my fuel Seder lead fixed, also cut my dual shock mounts off front welded the holes up, painted my front bumper

We'll got the truck played and insured and drove it around for the first time on the road. it drove good other than a vibration that comes on for a few seconds when off gas, and at higher speeds. I thought maybe rear axle so I tore apart and checked gears and re set them up, but still has vibration. I was thinking maybe something to do with driveshaft angles. The yolk was almost fully in tcase be fore zero rates and moving axle back 1.5. U-joints seem fine, idk here's some pics of my angles and yolk. What you guys think

I would say and longer drive-shaft and maybe dropping the t-case by about a half an inch. That and have the tires rebalanced.

I'm running a cv upper shaft in the rear. Works great with the shackle flip.

^This.

For one, it looks like you don't have enough spline engagement at the tcase, also it looks like your pinion is pointed a little to far up for a normal 2-joint shaft. At that angle, you would need a cv to cancel the vibs out.

I had the exact same vibrations as you with my normal 208, stock shaft, and a shackle flip. As soon as I put my CV rear shaft on (with a SYE'd 241), vibs went pretty much away completly.

Kert makes stout stuff, I can attest to that....he also makes crossmembers!

Welcome to the MI crowd! Definitely make Adams dunefest...its a hoot!

When posting pics, be sure to leave spacing between each pic so they post up in verticle not horizontal!
