Hey guys, I'm Lucas from Aurora, CO. I've crept around a little bit gaining some knowledge on my first Chevy C/K. I just picked up an
'86 K30 5.7l LT9/SM465/NP205/D60/14FF long bed, dual tank

@TerryD turned me into this place from the xterranation community. Looks like there's a ton of great info here and I think I plan to stay and learn more about this old truck.

The original plan was to get this truck for an off-road toy but now that I've found pretty affordable body parts and door shells, etc, I'm leaning towards just making this a nice pretty stock street truck.. I'm torn right now.

I would post some pics but don't know if I can without being a supporting member, yet.

Welcome! Another CO guy here, just a couple hours south of you in the land of Green Chile. Great patina on the body for sure.

The 88 and later front bumper has got to go dude. Just sayin. :whistle:One of the other Denver dudes might have a stock one in the pile for cheap or next to nothing.

Other than that the truck is sweet. Oh and don't be afraid to wheel it. You don't have to go completely bonkers and beat the sheet metal to death. Besides, it's more fun to show up at the top of a pass or a trail with a gaggle of Jeeps or Toyotas with a full-size. Really kills their ego. It's great.

Haha, I dig it.. I wondered if that bumper was stock. It's cracked in 5-6 places and is sticking farther out than I would expect. Check these pics out. 20200822_113554.jpg 20200822_113539.jpg 20200822_113533.jpg

I've already got a bunch of questions..

The paint looks like it was a shade of green although I can see several layers of paint on a few spots, the interior looks green too although I don't see a green shade of paint offered on the K30 in '86.

Annd, the RPO tag is missing from the glove box. I didn't get any history behind it other than it ran 8yrs ago when the original owner parked it. Supposedly I'll be the third owner.

Is it worth it to order a 50$ invoice from heritage or can I get that info from the Vin somehow?

He always had GM in his heart. The Nissan was an impulse buy like mine I think....
Haha, ✓ 100% impulse, I actually thought I wanted a Heep XJ when I found the Nissan..

My dad was a GM guy, I remember several he had, Big Blue was a crew cab with 37s probably, I thought it was a monster truck at 6yo tho. Wanted one ever since but always had obligations that kept me from projects. Now that I'm divorced I feel rich again.. funny how that works.

Unless you want to restore it, I’d say no. If you’re looking for a vehicle to restore. you may be able to find a more complete one

someone grafted on the 88-98 style front bumper to your truck and it took a lot to get it on there as you can see .

as to the green color i think its gm base level green used a lot of civilian level gov trucks . i had a crew cab one time this color and it was a old state department of conservation truck .

What's the best route to try and find the history on this thing?

I'd like to keep it original but would also like to get some more power out of it which would probably mean putting in a different engine.

I'm looking for a place outside of this county so I've got more space to wrench and no emissions.

Well I've tried 3 times to create a build but either my phone is whacko or something is wrong in that thread. My keyboard keeps disappearing and then it backs up to the main build section and I lose all the info I'd put in..

I'm over it for awhile, I'll try again sometime.

Try on your laptop or something and come back on the phone to add pictures

if I move this as a moderator, half of the items included as a normal build you won’t have access to
