Hello

Does anyone know what year k5 had true dual exhaust. I am looking to purchase the pre-bent exhaust to hang on my truck in liu of having a muffler shop prebend exhaust for me? Any idea?

Diesels had it, but the gas versions don't have the right hangars. Riveted on from the factory.

It would be an older pre-cat version. You can go here to research, just play around with years: http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog/walker-exhaust-systems/e-catalog-lookup When you get to the actual vehicle, it will show the configurations. A quick check shows '76-78 K5's being offered with duals, 350 or 400.

No catalytic converter equipped K5 got dual exhaust.

Assuming price is less (it should be, less parts), the later single exhaust (3") is a better setup than duals. 1991 would be the year I chose.

You could just get the summit racing prebent kit. It goes from manifolds all the way back and includes glass packs too. I think it was only a couple hundred bucks. That is what have on mine (I then purchased some cats and welded them in for emissions). I think the kit is orgianlly for a long bed in our years, but I just cut off the ends and it fits just fine. Just trying to give you some ideas/options

I don't understand the want for "true duals" nowadays...

Having a crossover pipe at least will help scavenging of the cylinders, if you must have duals. Single is probably better; I went with single 3" on my Suburban and it's great.

For wheelers its the clearance issues. Usually the best way to cross the pipe over is under the front driveshaft near the crossmember or something similar, and that is just one more thing to bash on a rock or something else. For street queens, it really doesn't matter and you are right, it has a smoother sounds with 1 pipe exit (don't have each bank fighting against each other).

Good point on the summit kit. I'm not sure if I saw one in the catalog (actually have a hard copy at the house), but I did see some "complete" dual exhaust kits for our vintage trucks. Don't recall a K5 listing.

Far less for the '87 and older stuff than for the '88+ newer body styles unfortunately. Whoever makes those kits though, might make kits for K5's, that just aren't listed?

Yeah, they might. It might be worth callling to see if it is offered. But like I said, I have the pickup version on my K5, just cut down the rear portion as needed to fit correctly. For how cheap it was, I think it was worth it

If you run dauls you need to be sure that you have an H pipe/crossover in it.
Here is the one that is in mine.

You could probably have one added to a pre-bent system.

Hooker makes a kit too, fits pretty well. You do have to figure out where to put the hangers and add your own mufflers. It's not designed to accomodate cats, but you could splice in a pair of universals I imagine.
