86 K5 Fuel gauge

mine moves a whole lot. so im guessing sending unit or it could be the guage itself

It has an open circuit, probably a bad ground at the sending unit. I just had this problem with my 81 burb. So I got a small hose clamp and attached a piece of wire to it and put it on one of the metal lines from the sending unit. Then grounded the other end to the frame. Now my gage works fine.
You can try finding the sending unit wire near the tank and poking thru the insulation and grounding it to the frame and see if the gage goes to below empty. That will tell you that the problem is at the tank or sending unit.

does the gauge still work right? mine did it but it was still accurate by the time i got to empty

oh ha well nevermind, might do like they said above then. thats something thats nice to have

One of the problems I've had with the blazer sending units is that the welds that hold the float gage to the sending unit break, and the float gage winds up floating around in the tank. I've had 3 break on me, one was only a year old. Unfortunetly the only way to tell and to fix it is to drop the tank.
