86 K5, Rear window... issues?

I've got an 86 K5 and the rear window is giving me a helluva time. Right now it's basically stuck at about 90% down (but not down enough to open the gate), and I'm not sure exactly what to do with it. I hooked up my drill to the cable but that seemed only to kink up the spring on the outside of the cable, it didn't actually move the window at all.

So I'm guessing that it's either the cable, the transmission, or that the window is jammed somehow. Except, because it's 90% down I can't open the tailgate or even get to the transmission with the back half of the cable.

So any ideas on what to do next?

If the window is 90% down you have the panel off you should be able to see the 4 bolts that hold the arms to the lower sash of the window. Get some help to hold the window and remove the bolts. This SHOULD allow you to push the window all the way down and release the interlock to open the gate.
Check the link and you should get the idea.

Hope this helps.

Or you could simply release the interlock manually by pushing down on the lockout lever and while that's pushed down operate the handle. That way the gate is down and you're not going to have any guillotine action on your hand when you undo those bolts.

That makes sense. Once I have the tailgate down, is there any way to get to the back side of the cable, or do I need to remove the four bolts previously mentioned to get the glass out of the way?

It's been ages since I've been inside the gate. You probably need to remove the bolts as mentioned.
