My truck is stock k5 4x4 (less the front driveshaft), 350 5.7L, Qjet Carb, stock headers, Wrangler 235/70/R14's, No lift kit, when I start the truck it starts a lil slow have to pump the gas a few, but runs fine, just seems to me that after it runs awhile the engine doesn't kick down, it stays at a high rpm, its driveable but seems to be eat fuel like crazy driving a few miles I go through 1/4 tank on the gauge, now I don't know anything about this carb or how to adjust it, is there anyone in my area that knows how to adjust the idle and or timing, I love my truck just don't want the wife to force me into getting something else cause its eating out of my wallet. I crawled up into the hood today to find a number on the carb but don't see anything useful I can make out the qjet name on the drivers side but thats it. I've never adjusted the timing either, just the usual of replacing the plugs, wires & rotor/cap, valve cover gaskets replaced, and a turbo muffler, other than that its a stock truck. Do I need to just chuck the qjet and get a new carb or is this fixable. please help TIM

Also how would I go about putting a Tach on the truck? Would that help in setting the idle and timing.

the carb will have a number on the drivers side of the carb, it will be on the verticle rear corner...7 digits...1705---

Study the carb some, it sounds like the linkage for the choke may be sticking or the choke pulloff (vaccum canister with linkage) may not be working correctly. A Jiffy carb kit or similar should help with these issues.
A tach pickup can be had under the dist cap...there is a terminal marked tach.
