welded rear, locked front

i loved the tires, they climb really well in my opinion, and for just driving in even deep sand it was fine, it was when I started trying to climb stuff in the sand that I got hosed,

i really like them, and even with being welded since they are what they are I dont see them wearing out any time soon, not to mention at 120.00 for a like new tire in that size and a radial non the less I cant complain a bit.

Where is this place you speak of for 300 bucks for a cowl? im half tempted before i get my truck painted to go down to a junkyard and trade my hood and cash for a cowl.

im starting to like the look of narrower tires now, i used to hate them. if i could ever find a set of them for a decent price id pick them up

Shawn we need to trade hoods before it gets all jaked up!!!! Whats up with the rear quarter panel? what else is up with this?

damaged rear fender is cut off..im I am still in debate on what to do...

3 ideas

cut outer skins of rear..paint to match truck

replace fender and hope it lives for a while

buy fiberglass all the way around :pimp1: but this means changing tires since mione would be wayyyyy in

replace the 1/4!! i was hoping you would go with the hugger orange as i read along. on post #103 the 5th pic is the front tire into the fender causing what looks like a crease in that area. also did you cut the bottom of the rear 1/4's behind the wheels? if so, why? and lastly, what year are those hd rims and where have you found those tires for $120 each?

i cut the rear to make less of a target for rocks in az and clearance looks etc..

the wheels are on any hd chevy, i payed 225.00 they can be found on 00 or 01 and up, look on craigslist, ebay or take off wheel and tire places in your area

the tires you can find on ebay, wholesalers, new, or from tractor supply and big rig places. dealer tire in az 602-233-1969, they are narrow but I love them and they will last a long time

as for the front fenders. i hard mounted the lower fender, I should have know better from the past, problem is when I trimmed it I decided not to add structure back to the fender, also noterd with these tires and back spacing I did not need to trim as much as I did.

as fot the truck..now is littered with dents, missing a panel and was pretty much on its side to day..more dents, but you can always add or replace metal:D

thats true or you can always just start over, again haha. did you cut the whole inner and outer rocker off and just run like 2x3 tubing along that edge and back into the frame on each end?

i like those tube doors too, i think they would look good with the middle tubes in an x, and do you just let them come into contact with the paint and metal in the door sill there where you are holding that latch up, showing how they work, do the latches hold it tight enough that it don't vibrate and rattle and drive you nuts and screw the paint and metal off?

where you cut the top off what did you do between the outer sheetmetal and the inner roof(headliner)will you take a pic of the top of your windshield and post it up so i can see what you did there? did you just pull them together and weld them or put a filler inbetween them?
that powdercoated cage, i thought it was chrome in that 1st pic.
i dont see why people don't use these in there rigs, what i plan on putting in mine

exspecially for those of us with out benders and notchers!! by the time we bought the tools could of bought a cage

and probally a set of apc seats!

you know much about gm steering columns? i have a tilt telescoping column out of a caddy and wonder if the plugs on it is standardized among gm,like would my wiring harness just plug into it at the bottom, or will i have to figure out what every wire is for to get the ignition and stuff to work.

in the pic when your in the back of that truck welding on that rear end, is that a fairlane or comet convertable i can see in the background, just calling it by the tail light?

on the tube doors, i used the rubber hood bumpers to issolate the vibration, makes it nice.

the rockers have supports foing to the cab mounts, not the frame. very solid

on the windshiled frame, I put a windshild frame from a 75 on so it is a factory set up, I cut it about 1/3 of the way down, sleved some tube in there and welded it up.

the car in the back round in a full resto being done on a falcon

as for the steering col, they are similare, alot of people have done it, I would ASSUME they are pretty straight forward, however issues such as with steering rod end you have, which wiring pin set up all become issues, Iwould try searching arund on websites with custom 2wd c10s and dig around.

thanks for the replies and pointers, i was readin another post(i think it was you) posted to some1 that you get wholesale from gm,is that so? and if so the $225 each for the rims was that wholesale? and if you do will you order my next gm crate motor for me then i would have a reason to come to AZ, and maybe wheel with you some!

the wheels I get at that price are from a dealership, but not new now are they wholesale. you can find alot of those rims in a set of 4 in the 200.00 range.:wink1: just look on craigslist and ebay or go to a couple dealerships. here in az we have alot od dealers that lift trucks anywhere from 4-10 inches and deck them out so they sell the rims/tires etc as take offs.

got a little creative...since I was feeling cheap and its 2am and I have a big ol welder and some tube.. steering brace, this will spread the load from both side of the box as well as to the center cross member between the frame rails on the sway bar mount. and I did not have to drill a hole..yippy!

very ingenius....i found me a 73-75 blazer in a scrap yard today just the tub stripped and rusted to h3ll and back but it has a nice windshield frame i can get the top 3/4 off of and i have a set of 73-75 doors i've had for 12 yrs. just couldn't see scrapping them, i burned the fiberglass full top as it was too big to store and i couldn't find any1 who wanted it, wish i would have set it behide my pop's shop so it would still be around. i did the cab on blazer thing and the tub was gone but the doors and top was in good shape,...but what i was going to ask....what do you reference off of to lay out your cut and to make sure you put the new windshild frame on the right height and straight? and does any1 reasonably close know where i can find a full top for a k5? or should i just go topless for good with a cage? i'm going to reskin my doors and have a set of tube doors so i can change them in the winter and roll up windows and have a bikini top and heater blowing on broil, run tube doors in the summer. i would like a top also tho if i can find one.
