Today i had a left front brake line leaking. So i disconnected the line and let it continue to drip in the catch pan. When I returned i noticed that it drain both the front and rear resivor. I would have expected the front to get drained however I did not think it would drain the rear. Is this a normal condition or is something hanging up in the porportioning valve :doah:

Any break guys out there have any feed back? I found a hydraulic diagram in my old manuals but I cant make heads or tails of it...

the prop vave shouldnt let both sides run dry.the valve inside should stop the one side from completely draining.it is supposed to be sealed from side to side to isolate the front and rear systems in case of a leak.that way you still have brakes on one side of the system in case of a leak or blown line.id say the prop valve is bad.

Thanks for the reply.... I was leaning towards the prop valve being bad also however after looking at the drawing for the master cyclinder it could also leak fuild across to the other line if a seal was bad......

both are one piece on the older models and 2 piece on the newer plastic style.both run through the prop valve independantly.so it would be the valve in the master cylanderis leaking through or the prop valve is bad and letting it leak through.im looking and there isnt a individual test for them to make sure which is leaking.sorry im not more help.it may be worth just replacing them.there is definitely a problem and one of them is leaking.
