87 Baffled Tank in 77 Body Questions

At work we had big air vacuum to air out the bladders/cells. (Aircraft)
It was a big venturi, same principle as the air powered vacuum pump for a/c units harbor fright sells
 
No problem at all. I put a oem 31 gallon efi tank from a 87 in a 77 K5. Bolts right up. Only issue is the filler hose diameter is different but no biggie.
By no biggie, do you mean you used the 1.5" hose from the 77 stretched to fit the 1.75" on the tank, or vice versa? I'm doing this swap into my 76 and unsure which route to go...

I’m pretty sure we used the bigger fill hose that fit the tank and left the hose longer so it sealed up to the tapered part of the filler I think?

I don’t know if this would be considered “proper” but I’ve been running for 8 years like this. I used a piece of the 1.5” hose, hose clamped to the inlet and slid the 1.75 over that and hose clamped that to the 1.5”.

I could not find anyone that made or could come up with an actual hose with 1.75 on one end and 1.5 on the other.
 
Weld this onto the bottom. No problemo...


I welded that onto the bottom of my Regal tank about 15 years ago. Except I was so worried about the fumes I just bought a new tank, it was like $100 at the time, and I figured $100 is totally worth it vs potentially blowing myself up. It was also too tall so I cut it down to about half depth.

I wouldn't like it in an offroad rig, because you definitely don't want the fuel tank to be the limit of your departure angle. In fact, I put a chrome moly tube across the frame level with the tank sump just behind it on my regal. I call it the "oh sh!t" bar", because if I ever launch the front far enough to hit it that's what I'll be saying. Similar to a grab handle for passengers.

Also, since you mount that toward the rear of the tank for acceleration, if the tank gets real low, and you get on the brakes, or go down a hill, it will starve the pump, had it happen once when it was just under 1/4 tank. And I did do the hole saw baffle deal with the original tank skin.

So I believe it wouldn't work well for an offroad rig for those two reasons, going downhill, and ground clearance.

For the future blazer project I just purchased a Dorman 87 TBI tank because the Dorman is actually painted on the outside over the galvanized tank. The spectra is only galvanized. Dorman is Made in Taiwan, I read the Spectra is made in China, but don't have one in front of me to confirm. I have a Spectra tank in my regal, I zinc primered and undercoated it before installation (after welding).

I bought a Delco sending unit for it.

I can get the Holley tanks, but they are 25 gallon only thus far. I do have customers running the Holley tanks in other vehicles, they are happy with them.

It used a separate sending unit and pump assembly, so there are two holes in the top, not one. They both use a gasket.

I prefer the GM o-ring interface, with just one hole in the top, though the Holley is good quality.

I found this yesterday and ordered it with a piece of 1.75" hose for about the same price the hose would've cost from O'Reilly. Sounds like the same premise as what you did, so hopefully it works out.
