Hi everyone. This is my first post on here, but I've been reading around quite a bit trying to soak up as much as I can. I'm going to be perfectly honest and say that my knowledge level when it comes to working on cars is minimal. I've always wanted to learn more and I've always loved the Blazers and Jimmy's from the 70s and 80s. A friend of mine's mother-in-law had one sitting at her house that he just happened to mention he was selling for her. I jumped at the opportunity and as of a week ago it's sitting in my driveway. It had been sitting at her house for about 2 years without being started or anything done to it. Given that fact, I would say it's in pretty good shape. The person who owned it before her had put some decent work into it. We were able to get it started and it's drivable for a short distance. (enough to drive it up onto and off of a trailer). This weekend was my first weekend to really get my hands on it. I changed the oil, siphoned out any gas that was left, put a fresh tank of gas with gum out, flushed the transmission fluid, added power steering fluid, changed the air filter, and changed the steering coupling that I broke when I was trying to drive it without power steering off the trailer. After doing all that I started it up to get the clean tank of gas running through it. It took a bit to get up and running. Had to give it some gas to get it to start up. Then once I got it started it back fired a few times. I thought it may need to run through the new tank of gas with the additive and so I kept running it for a while. By the end of the day it sounded a lot better. I was happy, but I knew more work was needed. That was Friday that I did all that then we had some friends over today and I of course wanted to show off my new toy. I tried to start it up and we were right back to struggling to start and backfiring. Today I really didn't have time to do anything to it so I just figured I'd get back at it next weekend. I have the Haynes Repair Manual that I've been reading, and I'm going to try a few different things. I figured I'd post on here to see if anyone had any other suggestions as well. Given the fact that it sat for so long I'm just leaning towards it being something with the fuel line. I read a post on here about a guy who got back from the military after 8 years and he mentioned a few things he was trying. I was thinking to start with the fuel filter and go from there. I also wanted to know your thoughts on how long I should keep it running to get the gum out running through it?

PS: I did my research before I bought the coupling. I know that the better thing to do is to get a U-Joint, but I need to be able to steer it now and I didn't want to mess with that right off the bat. I likely will do that later, but this is going to work for now.

Nice looking truck! It seems to have a massive body lift on it, looks like even more than the usual 3". But it's certainly clean!

So im curious to know if the computer for the fuel injection is still mounted above the glove box.
The wiring for the injectors is that mess up on the passenger side of the firewall. TBI is a good injection setup. I would look into that before throwing money down that carburetor

Yes, it is still mounted there. Added a pic of it to the group just because. Trying to take a lot of pictures for both myself and for anyone looking who might notice something that I wouldn't. I'll look into that a bit more too before jumping to conclusions. Thanks

Thank you. It has both a suspension lift and body lift so ya it's up over 3". As you can see from the other pictures it dwarfs my Sierra.
