Anyone know what fuel & ignition systems these are supposed to have?
Dodge 360 engine.

My buddy got one for $200 that doesn't run.
I know nothing about these rigs.

It has an old style 2 barrel Motorcraft carb on it and a hacked together ignition system.

Weren't these TBI? It has what looks to be an eecm on the left inner fender.

Ugly freakin rig with that god awful woody crap.

If it's an 87 full size, it's a Grand Wagoneer. Jeep took the Wagoneer name and put it as an option package on the little Cherokee starting in 84. That's when they added "Grand" to the Wagoneer name on the full size.

Does it look something like this (but with maybe a different grill)?

If it's like that, it's the full size Grand Wagoneer.

The engine is most likely an AMC 360. It could be a swapped in Dodge engine but not likely. There's absolutely nothing in common between the Dodge and the AMC 360's besides displacement. If the distributor is on the front (like a Ford) and it leans towards the driver side, it's an AMC. The Dodge has the distributor in the back, like a Chevy.

This is what the AMC engine would look like. This is a 401 but the 360 looks the same on the outside:

The oil fill tube sticking up in the front is also a dead giveaway, as is the oil pump being built into the timing cover on the passenger side.

The Grand Wagoneer used a carbureted 360 through the end in 1991. Chrysler bought AMC/Jeep in 87 and strung out the Grand Wagoneer with the AMC engine until 1991. It used a Motorcraft 2150 2bbl. As far as carburetors go, it's pretty good off road and the alititude compensation circuit works reasonably well. The ignition is a Motorcraft setup as well. The transmission will most likely be a Chrysler TF727 with a New Process t-case that's set up for full time. Something like an NP229 that no one makes parts for.

If a Dodge engine was swapped in, there's no telling what fuel injection or ignition is being used.

That full size Jeep platform has a following. You can find out all sorts of information about them over at http://www.ifsja.org.

Good info, thanx.

It's an AMC engine. It looks like it needs lots of help to get it going again.
I'll pass that link along.

Oh, I just remembered another thing I was going to add.

If the box looks like this, it's the stock Motorcraft ignition:

It will have two round connectors on it. One with 4 wires, the other with 2. You can see the connectors on the bottom left of the picture.

Good luck with that Wagon. Here are several places to go to find parts.

Is it a projection? Thought all waggys were deleted of injection from the factory

While many people (myself included) have adapted injection to AMC engines, they never came from the factory that way. The Wagons were pretty outdated in the 80's. There wasn't a major redesign of the platform since it was introduced in 1963. (Check under the grill and you can see the stampings from the original "rhino" grill with tabs spot welded on to hold the grill). Chrysler bought AMC/Jeep in 1987 and strung the Wagoneer out pretty much unchanged through 1991 while they were working on replacing it with the Grand Cherokee. What that meant was that the AMC 360 kept the carburetor through the end.

What FI set up have you guys been putting on the factory AMC motors?

Just about anything you can think of.

I've just done GM TBI since it's easy. An adapter plate for the throttle body, a new fuel pump and some wiring and it runs. The setup from a 350 runs pretty well on the 360. The 454 setup runs great on a 401 with a healthy cam.

There's a guy who puts all the parts together and sells it as a kit.

Others use aftermarket like holley pro-jection or commander 950 TBI. Edelbrock sells a multiport EFI system now.

There's another guy who adapts Edelbrock AMC Torker manifolds and builds his own EFI. He welds in the bungs and builds all of the fuel rails and all that.

The full size jeep crowd is a weird crowd. They come up with some of the most creative stuff.

Canabalizing stuff is good. Wasn't sure if you were using any other setups than you mentioned. Like you said, some chit gets interesting.

When I rebuilt the 401 in my 77 Cherokee, I put up some pictures. Towards the end of the page is where I adapted the wiring from a junked pickup to run the TBI setup.

Of course, I put the 360 in when I discovered that all the freeze plugs in the 401 heads were leaking. Then the 360 had mismatched distributor gears and they shredded. Then I moved to Austin so I haven't done much of anything to it for a while. But the garage is getting set up so I can get the 401 back in the Cherokee and get it running again.
